Inspirational (2007-04-30)  As a long-time fan of Callanetics, I find this book tremendously inspiring. Whenever I get into a slump with my exercise routine, I pull it off the shelf and read it from cover to cover. Before I know it, I'm psyched up and ready to go again.It opens with some background on Callan Pinckney and how she developed this form of "deep muscle" exercise. After that, you'll be shown some AMAZING before & after photos of real people. One woman appears to have shaved 20 years from her body in just 19 hours of work!The chapters that follow describe each exercise from the "One-hour Program" in great detail, letting you know exactly what you should be feeling and what kind of results you can expect. Interestingly enough, the routine from the book contains five more exercises than the original one-hour video does. (Two more hip & behind exercises, two additional floor stretches and something called the "open & close" that works the entire body.)Next up is Callan's "15-minute Maintenance Program", followed by several chapters that address many common physical conditions. If you have a bad back or delicate knees like I do, you'll really appreciate the modifications provided.In the last chapter, we get to witness Callan personally demonstrating the "Advanced Program." While I may never achieve her strength and flexibility (at least not in this lifetime!), just seeing photos of her in action takes my breath away. At nearly 50 years of age when this book was produced, her athletic grace is astounding.Still, while the book does contain some great pointers on technique, I must warn you it's no substitute for live instruction. You'd never guess how small and delicate most of these movements really are. They're almost *imperceptible.*I would suggest picking up one of the Callanetics tapes (or DVD's) in addition to this book, just to make sure you get a feel for things. Once you have it down, and are willing to commit to 2 hours a week, the results will positively amaze you.
About Callanetics (2006-01-31)  This book will change your figure, regardless of any usual factors that fad diets or workout videos do. It is an exercise program which doesnt involve sweating, puffing,equipment or dieting!! It can be used by anyone,there are people on the video ranging from 19 - 70! even people with backpain or bad knees etc, callan caters for everyone and uses her system to work on strengthening and protecting weakened areas of the body and quickly and massively toning and tightening flab or goosh, to give you a figure much alike a teenager, or professional dancer. 1 hour of this program provides the same toning and muscle growth as 24hours of aerobic dancing or exercise. They are really difficult the first few hours, as u are using muscles u havent probably used in your entire life but i can guarantee, after only 2 hours of this program you will see a huge change in your figure. these are the fastest, most amazing exercises i have ever seen or done, and i love my body now. i can honestly say, the flab which once was, is now hard. Callanetics was highly popular in the 80's and there are classes almost everywhere but i just dont understand why it isn't more popular today. Do it for yourself!! The portfolio of proof in the books will convince u.
