'There is a great deal of truth in humour. If you have only just begun to discover why someone with Asperger's syndrome is different, this book will inform and entertain you. The descriptions provide an accurate balance between the qualities and difficulties associated with Asperger's syndrome, while the photographs will make the journey of discovery enjoyable and remarkable.' - Tony Attwood, author of Asperger's Syndrome and The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome

Cats do not have Asperger's Syndrome (2008-08-10) I have Asperger's Syndrome and can not recommend this book. This book has very little to do with what it is like to have Asperger's Syndrome and what it is like to live in a world of Neuro Typicals. Kathy Hoopmann is clueless about what is like being an Asperger and shows us Asperger's no respect or understanding. On the whole, Cats are nothing like a person with Asperger's. The only thing that cats and Asperger's may have in common is that we both like our privacy. My expereince with cats is that they like to be cuddled and are extremely good at picking-up social cues which is one of the biggest problems us Asperger's have living in a Neuro Typical world. As an Asperger, in my opinion this is one of the worst books on the subject of Asperger's Syndrome and is a complete waste of money.
Meow... (2008-08-10) i must admit i thought the book would be very detail and not mostly pictures and bold writing. i found it poetic and it would be good to use with young children.
What a fantastic book! (2008-07-18) This book has a wonderful way of explaining what Aspergers Syndrome is about. I am not only a mother to a young boy with possible Aspergers (going through the diagnosis process at present) but I am also a Registered nurse for people with a Learning Disability and i have found this book very informative but in a light-hearted way. I have shown this book to my sons school and they are going to order it and I will be purchasing further copies for his Grandmas as well. It has also helped me to explain to my daughter why her brother is like he is without making it too complicated for her.
swastikat autisticat (2008-05-21) Firstly... a great book! Really helps to see right into the heart of Asperger's without all the technical jargon. Therefore I'd say it's readable to almost anyone who can read, and especially those with the condition, although obviously its length (it can be read in 10-15 mins) means it's particularly ideal for children. Ok so onto my review title. You may well be wondering what all that is about!? Well basically believe it or not I actually prophesised this book which is kinda funny in itself as cats in mythology have often been portrayed as psychic vampires, though this no doubt stems from the fact they can tell if you're a cat person the moment they walk in a room. However I was mentally very unstable at the time (I'd just had a severe breakdown in China so I'm not claiming to be psychic) the climax of which occured after drumming along to the lion dance (make of that what you will). However with all the delusions and paranoia etc laced with Asperger's the one thing I had faith in was my cat and cats generally. Coincidentally my cat fell ill just before I went to China with an ear infection (this can be fatal in cats) but when I returned she'd recovered and was waiting for me on my messy desk as though trying to remind me that I needed to clear up to reinvigorate the chi flow in my room (I've read feng shui for you and your cat too). Also I put swastikas in my title as swastikas are also used talismanically as black cats are at weddings. Yet the 2 have been represented symbolically misrepresentedly through the years and cats have even been misrepresented as satanic. This conflicting ideology lead me to write a dialogue with a little spiritual guidance along the way from a fellow Asperger friend. What was born was a poem and dialogue using a lot of da vinci code style suppositions albeit more condensed. In short this book means the world to me and has been such a comfort. It is one of my bibles!!!
Just so great (2008-03-27) A superb little book. I actually bought it for a friend for her birthday, we both work with children who have Aspergers and also is a cat lover - so it was spot on for a gift. I've got to admit having a sneaky read though before wrapping it up (but I did tell her!). It's so informative and entertaining all at the same time. It would serve a purpose to share with parents who have just received a diagnosis or who have their suspicions. Therefore it is great to share with children as well - the pictures of the kittens actually tell the story more than the text does. The information is accurate yet presented in a non-threatening way. Excellent for those who are experiencing this form of special needs, are wanting to find out all about it or who work in this field. That brings me to the pictures. They are high quality glossy images that are simply adorable but when linked with the text accentuates what is being passed on.
