Global Communication are two Englishmen (Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton) who have been very involved in the electronic music scene in the U.K. Specializing in the ambient/environmental genre, they make extremely gentle, organic music. Pentamerous Metamorphosis is a "retranslation" of an album by Chapterhouse called Blood Music that has only been available as a promotional item in England (until now). So, what we have here is a remix of a dance-pop album originally recorded by a bunch of shoe-gazers back in 1994. Interestingly, the document amplifies the lush melodies of Chapterhouse's conventional rock record and turns it into a thing of rare beauty. Eliminating most of the band's vocal tracks and de-emphasizing guitars in favor of shimmering keyboards and aquatic-sounding synthesizers, this is quality ambient music. --Mitch Myers

Outstanding (2007-03-01)

If you thought 76:14 was great, this is even better. 5 tracks, which add up to about an hour of breathtaking ambience par excellence. I'd be wasting my time trying to describe the tracks, most of which are return-journeys to epic soundscapes (if that makes any sense!) with only Kosmas Epsilon's track 5 breaking this formula. If you get the chance, by all means buy this!

Who would have thought that you could take 5 tracks by a long forgotten bunch of indie shoe-gazers (even that genre name is forgotten now!)and turn them into a collection that can only be described as a monument.This is the kind of record about which I would say that if you have never heard this, I envy you. Some of the stylistic touches now sound a trifle dated but the overall content is still deeply affecting.Alpha Phase is a massive opening track and the closing Epsilon Phase features a very clever use of ghostly vocals but for me the standout is Beta Phase. A long droning intro weaves itself into a gorgeous melody and when the deep sub bass drops in they'll be scraping you off the ceiling! Listening to this music while high in the Alps on a beautiful spring day is one of the defining moments of my life.In other words: this is quite good. Purchase it.

Pentamerous was not available for some years as a true Global Communication stand-alone release, simply because it was never intended to be that in the first place. Instead, this five-track effort (thus the name) was in fact nothing less than a complete makeover of the duo's labelmates Chapterhouse, specifically their second and final album, Blood Music. Chapterhouse had taken its incipient interest in ambient and generally calmer techno music to a certain extent on the album, resulting in some intriguing fusions, but entrusted Global Communication to do a remix job that was originally a bonus second disc that came with the UK CD version.Happily one doesn't need to know or be immediately familiar with Blood Music to enjoy Pentamerous as it is. Chapterhouse's presence is mostly suggested by the very occasional vocal sample or hint of melody elsewhere - the original album itself has more than five tracks, and there's no real sense that Pentamerous follows Blood Music point for point. When used, those original parts can have very interesting effect - a heavily processed guitar part becomes the central melody on "Gamma Phase", surrounded by both despairing, alienated sonics and a straightforward, lovely synth string arrangement. Ultimately, Pentamerous Metamorphosis feels and sounds like a footnote for both bands, but it 's a footnote worth taking the time to consider."

Another masterpiece from Middleton and Pritchard (2001-04-17)

Another classic from the band who brought 76:14, Pentamerous Metamorphosis is a collection of 5 ambient songs (again without discriptive titles merely Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon Phase). The first (my personal favourite) is a progressive piece around 17 minutes which starts with slowly mutating synths building to a climactic multi-textural soundscape towards the end before settling down again for the conclusion. All these tracks transport the listener to alien locations mixing acoustic and synthetic for an 'altered reality' sonic imagery. This is a very difficult album to find but those who are sucessful in purchasing this album will be greatly rewarded with just over 1 hour of pure ambient bliss.

Fantastic ambient album (2000-05-02)

I recieved this a few days ago and I've already listened to it at least a dozen times. A track by Chapterhouse remixed out of recognition 5 times; it doesn't sound very exciting, but this is one of my favourite ambient albums (and I've heard hundreds).
