Do you feel lucky? You should do for coming across this gem. Learn all that was cool in contemporary scoring through the 1970s in a 40-minute showcase of guitars and percussion. Composer Lalo Schifrin consistently weaves intriguing forms from jazz and rock elements. This is perfectly showcased by "Scorpio's Theme" which threads wordless female voice as an insanity flag-marker into a rushing series of complex rhythms. The series' humorous ambiguity over Harry Callaghan's own sanity is likewise reflected in "Dirty Harry's Creed", which makes an electric piano work hard to keep up with more of the fast-paced percussive tempo. The move to the later Sudden Impact and Magnum Force is heralded by a clearly 1980s bass line. Even if the album's cue titles are a little hard to follow, it's never a problem to locate yourself historically as the music style changes with the decade. While technology, fashion, and hair styles may date a film to comic levels, Schifrin's music always stays fresh. --Paul Tonks

Very good (2001-01-05)

This is a really good CD if you are familiar with the films, with a number of great tracks. My favourites are Dirty Harry's Creed, Scorpio's Theme, Magnum Force Theme, Another Victim, San Francisco After Dark & Palancio. I think the only thing that lets it down are the tracks from Sudden Impact (made in the 1980's).

Overall, I can highly recommend this CD - great musicianship. Worth the price just for Track 2.
