Amazon.co.uk Review

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time may be the greatest single-player video game ever created in any genre--it's that good. Those new to Nintendo's enormously popular Zelda series will be glad to know this game stands completely on its own. Our hero, Link, starts the game as a young boy living in a magical forest village populated by elf-like children. But there is evil lurking in the world. Strange monsters are appearing, and the land is changing. It's up to Link to discover why, defeat the monsters, and stop the evil at its source.

The game world's ever-changing environment looks like a fairy tale come to life. Majestic waterfalls, towering castles and magical forests are a feast for the eyes and ears. Rivers flow, rain falls, the sun and moon rise and set. There's even an erupting volcano. Exploring this world is half the fun of the game. Along the way, you learn musical tunes that you can play on the flute-like Ocarina, a magical device that helps you teleport, alter the weather, even control time itself.

Character interaction is important to gather clues. The fairy princesses, singing frogs and dragons you'll meet can be cute, humorous, or somewhat terrifying. Sprinkled liberally throughout the game are hundreds of secret treasures and enjoyable mini games (one of which, the fishing game, would almost be worth buying by itself). Game controls are easy to learn and there's even an elaborate fight training course built into the game. Controlling the hero quickly becomes instinctive, and you can concentrate on saving the world. To win the game, you'll have to use not only Link's sword, but your mind as well. This game's challenging and inventive puzzles really make you think. In fact, to keep from getting stuck, it's worth spending a few pounds on an official player's guide. With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Nintendo has come up with an all-consuming adventure title that will provide days of engrossing gameplay. --Eric Fredrickson

Pros: Best single-player video game Freedom to explore a rich, complex world Helpful fairy guide gives hints Charming, humorous and light-hearted, yet challenging Cons: Some puzzles can be frustrating Only one saved game per player--don't save when you're stuck! Much more fun with Rumble Pack

Players will follow the exploits of the young hero, Link, as he ventures through the most realistic and compelling video game world ever. Along the way, he will solve puzzles, interact with many strange and unusual characters and, if need be, use his sword to give battle to the forces of evil. Link's quest will take him from the depths of dark dungeons to the top of cloud-scraping volcanic peaks. He will have to swim, climb, jump and even ride a horse to save the world from the malevolent menace that threatens it.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time combines the most intricate graphic art and engrossing gameplay ever produced in an interactive entertainment title. In addition to its mesmerising visual effects and nearly an hour of gorgeous, real-time, 3-D animation scenes, the game gives players an unprecedented variety of gameplay activities. Besides enabling players to travel back and forth through time, the game includes elements of nearly every video game genre--puzzle, adventure, action, first-person shooter, role playing and even a hint of sports.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is for one player only. However, up to three games in progress can be saved on the pak. The optional Rumble Pak (not included) can be used with this game to provide tactile feedback and heighten the realism of your game-playing experience.

Having played the n64 version of this game when i was about 6 i found it quite hard but when i was 12 i thought id give it another shot as i got master quest with wind waker(both of which are fantastic) i can honestly say this is the best game ever its so good i have it for n64, gamecube and wii all of which i still play (at 14 years old). im lucky enough to own all the consoles which i have all the best games for (halo 3, gta 4, metal gear solid 4, twilight princess etc) even with all of these this is still the best out of them all by a mile of, if you havnt played this then buy the legend of zelda collectors edition from amazon you not only get this but you get majoras mask and 2 other classic zelda games and i promise when you finally complete the game you will want to get wind waker and twilight princess. if i wanted to explain how good the game is i would be typing all night BUY THIS GAME

This is a most beautiful bathing experience for all the senses. It is not only (far and away) the finest computer game ever created, it is the finest fairy tale, for people of all ages, created in the last fifteen years.
Beautiful. (2008-02-18)

I have to say that I'm not a great lover of RPG's, which is what Zelda is more or less of, but the reason I have always loved playing 'Zelda Ocarina Of Time' is because there is the GTA-style freedom of the kingdom run by the evil Ganondorf (of course you have to unlock the towns as you progress through the game). You play as a boy called 'Link' in the game and you receive a magical Ocarina (what it does is it plays music that causes spells to happen such as you suddenly turn into an adult, the world goes from day to night etc). There are also memorable battles like with 'Shadow Link' in the game not to mention the final battle between you and Ganon himself. You can save at any point during gameplay as well and the music score is fantastic as in John Williams standard. Got an N64 without this? Then you that little extra part.....
I can see how others love this game (2008-01-03)

This is not a game I would usually call my type - the theme of fantasy - but after seeing the ratings and being summonned as "best game of all time" I thought I'd give it a shot on the Wii's Virtual console. Graphics are good compared to other games at the time. Only problem I found was during the tutorial, it didn't tell me what buttons to press as in "press A to attack" but instead "press (colour of button) to attack". This is useless to me as i have been using a gamecube controller. The story is obviously well thought out and links to the gameplay. There is many items to collect (this part of the game I liked.) and many places to explore.I personally find it a very hard game but this was my first zelda game. I would recommend this for the N64 or VC on the Wii if you are a "hardcore gamer" or if previous Zelda games and other fantasy games have taken your interest"
Zelda........... WOW! (2007-10-17)

The first time i played this game i thought wow there was no other way to describe it, the graphics are superb i could even compare them to the graphics now. The story line is very well thought up with all the twists and the mind-blowing battles against fabulously detail bosses and masters.I personally enjoyed the way thn you can just wonder around without having to do quest all the time. I would recocment this game to anyone who has a nintendo 64 and if they havn't i'll say they should get one for the great experience of Zelda the Ocarina of time and the same for majora's mask.
