The Road Runner speeds to success; coyote's not far behind. (2001-03-10) Like the blur of the Road Runner as it whizzes by, this video captivates your attention from start to finish. And like Wile E Coyote's obsession with the named bird, you won't be able to take your eyes off the screen. Each episode is expertly crafted in comic timing whilst characterisation is consistently strong and effective. You can truly empathise with the Coyote's frustrations as he fails to capture the bird time and again. Poor Coyote. He must be hungry. In one instance, and arguably the comic highlight of the video, the coyote, after having painted a tunnel entrance onto a solid wall is surprised when the road runner manages to navigate it. He, unfortunately is unable to pass through. The collection will undountedly raise the question as to whether one should favour the Road Runner or the Coyote. A post-modern reading may suggest that the Road Runner's constant ability to out-wit the coyote is biased treatment from the cartoons' script writers. Perhaps the producers should have included the infamous episode from 1982 when the coyote skilfully captures the bird, thus ending fifty years of despairing hunger, yet this may have removed the emphasis on comedy which is prevailent throughout. This is a must-have for fans as well as new-comers to the world of the Road Runner. Like Laurel and Hardy, the on-screen magnetism between the two central characters is magical and deeply engrossing. Your life will never be the same again. Meep-meep.
