A classic of world cinema. (2002-11-29)  Zero de Conduite is one of Jean Vigo's two classic works (the other being L'atalante) and an initial work of surrealism that would elicit much influence on films such as Orphee, Les Quatre Cents Coups and, most famously, would provide the notion behind Lindsay Anderson's classic If...(1968). This is only a short work, 45 minutes, and elements may remind you of films like Freaks or Eraserhead - though the classic Bunuel/Dali collaboration Un Chien Andalou may also spring to mind. It also reminded me a little of the Bergman-scripted Torment. Zero de Conduite is still a classic of world cinema and along with the superior L'atalante remains a film to be seen by anyone interested in the development of film from its beginnings just before the 20th century. As Scott Walker said: "I tip to Vigo"-
