Power Publisher is a neat amalgamation of four products, all designed to provide newcomers to desktop publishing with a wealth of easy-to-use tools at a very affordable price. PressWorks provides the foundations and this is where most of the action occurs. The tidy interface is accompanied with plenty of on-line help, step-by-step tutorials and "page-pilots" that make it easy and quick to start designing newsletters, greeting cards, posters, logos, business cards--the list is endless. PressWorks documents can be exported as Web pages and a "modeless" system means you can glide effortlessly between different tasks. The PowerText tool is also very fast in producing some great effects. Add text in the simple tabbed window, select a font and layout format and then play with a wide range of striking 3D effects. The lighting direction for shadowed text can be modified, as can the orientation and perspective and the results can be viewed at any stage.

Power Publisher comes with plenty of photos, graphics and clipart pictures, as well as Designworks for creating original images, while PhotoEditor can be used to scan and edit images and photos. The results can be viewed immediately and compared with the original image as PhotoEditor uses a double window.

The Address Book keeps all your Web, e-mail and postal addresses in good order but it becomes a powerful tool when combined with the mail-merge feature for printing sales literature or bulk mail shots directly from PressWorks. --Dave Mitchell

Power Publisher (Pressworks) (2000-07-31)

Have used Pressworks now for some time and after trying several other Desktop Packages, always come back to Pressworks. Printing in 'Booklet' form is a great asset for me, it even autodetects duplex printing.
