Amazon.co.uk Review
It's almost three decades since Elton John laced his 12-foot high Doc Martens and lost his pinball crown to the deaf, dumb and blind child in the film Tommy. The game may not be as popular it was in the 1970s, but Pinball Madness 3 is a welcome addition to any PC.
The game contains 25 different 3-D tables with all the features associated with the real thing such as ramps, traps, locks and flipper control. These include Slam Tilt Pinball, The Web, Timeshock and, best of all, Platinum Pinball.
Pinball Madness 1 and Pinball Madness 2 were, unsurprisingly, the precursors to this game, but gamers need no previous experience to play this installment. Pinball Madness 3 is addictive, and you won't even need ridiculously sized boots to reclaim your crown. --Paul Munford

Havin' a Ball (2001-11-30) I'm a bit of a pinball fan but for a while there haven't been too many pinball simulations available for the PC so imagine my delight when I discovered Pinball Madness from Encore Software. The 2 CD's contain three complete pinball programs with a massive 15 tables between them and, at first, I was a little spoiled for choice. Initially I booted up The Tomb and as the name implies this is a spooky sort of table with stirring Indianna Jones type music and echoing crypt-like sounds as the ball bounces around scarabs, mummies and sarcophagi. However, after a couple of games I was itching to see what the other tables held in store. The next lot were four tables from a game called Slam Tilt and contained another spooky pinball sim, Night Of The Demon, as well as ones based on Pirates, Space and Mean Machines. Unlike the angled table of The Tomb these four were top-down double-height representations so they scroll as you play, keeping the ball in sight at all times. After about an hour curiosity got the better of me and I moved on to the final selection of 10 tables from the Platinum Pinball collection. There were a couple of alien themed tables based on Roswell and The Visitors; two based on the comic strip superheroes Judge Dredd and the Avengers; a couple of footy games, Kick Off and World League and the other four were called Daredevil, Tarantula, Jailbreak and Jackpot...! It was like being in heaven...! One thing that all the games had in common was superb ball dynamics. The reactions as they moved around the table were excellent and in every case the clunking, clicking, clanging and dinging sounded just like an arcade machine. The themed sounds were also superb with scary screams, buzzing lasers, cheering crowds and wailing sirens. Most also had LED mini in-games, multiball features and so much going on it will make your head spin.
