Amazon.co.uk Review

While Star Trek Invasion never quite reaches the lofty heights of the Colony Wars games, it's still worth a look even if you're not a green-blooded trekkie.

Set in the timeline of the Next Generation TV and film series, Invasion has you cast in the role of a fighter pilot destined for a big part in the upcoming war against the Earth-bound Borg. The Borg is not the only Trek race to show up in here; the Cardassians, Klingons, and Bajorans are all along, too. Whilst actors Michael Dorn as Worf and Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard contribute good voice acting to an all-around solid production.

The visuals in Invasion are uniformly sharp and show an attention to detail that almost makes the old PlayStation beg for mercy. The planets, the ships, the explosions (especially the explosions!) are top notch. Disturbingly, the controls in Invasion can be a little to sensitve at times and are suited to perhaps better space jokeys amongst us.

Perhaps because it is set in the more politically correct universe of Star Trek, Invasion does lack Colony Wars' level of intense, gritty combat and its story isn't nearly as engaging. Yet, for a laser-blast filled journey into the final frontier, it's still a fun ride.--Mark Brooks

Resistance is futile. (2001-09-26)

Whilst I'm not a full-on Trekkie, there are two things that I've always loved about Star Trek; the spaceships and the Borg. This game has both in abundance! Whereas some Star Trek things are a little nerdy, this game is really cool. It has action, great graphics, some of the best FMVs (Full Motion Videos) of any game on the PSX and more than all that, it is brilliantly atmospheric. The lines "We are the Borg. You will be assimilated." and "Warning! Klingon Bird of Prey decloaking off the bow!" will have you quivering with tension and excitement. If there is a drawback to this game, it's that it's very hard in places and some of the later missions (like stopping fleeing ships) can prove frustrating.
One of the best space combat games on PSX! (2001-07-07)

I've never really been a fan of Star Trek, but flight combat games have always been one of my favourite genres. I'd read reviews of Star Trek Invasion, but was a bit apprehensive when I started playing it. The first thing which strikes you about this game is the gorgeous graphics - some of the best seen on Playstation. Give it a while, and you'll soon discover that this is an excellent game, and you don't have to be a Trekkie to enjoy it (but it does help). The controls can be a little overly sensitive at times, and many of the missions are simply mindless shooting with few tactics involved, but all in all this is a great title with a good plot to keep things rolling. If you're a fan of Star Trek, buy it, if you're not then rent it out and see what you think.
The borg? Who? (2001-04-17)

You'd think by reading that blurb thing on the back of the box that the game would predominantly focus on the good fight against the Borg collective. And whilst every mission in this game will satisfy you the best a playstation game could, you end up finishing it wondering where the borg have got to. I mean come on! You're buying it to kick some borg butt aren't you? Well I did, and was slightly disappointed by the lack of borg type levels. Don't get me wrong, if you buy it you'll love it, but after fighting a borg cube early on in the game you'll want a lot more missions like it, and unfortunately there are very few.

But so what? It's a great game, it's graphically tidier than certain games from the Colony Wars series, and another great feature is the two player dual mode - at last, a game of this genre with a two player mode. Buy it. Go on, you know you want to.

Star trek games aren't supposed to be this much fun...... (2001-04-06)

I'm a Star Trek fan, but I didn't think that you could get a game that would imerse you in the ST universe so well and still be able to get it on the Playstation. It's the best Star Trek game ever. Thank God they made so many Colony Wars games. It gave the developers time to perfect that style of game, and look at the results.
