Amazon.co.uk Review
Join Manny, the undead travel agent of Grim Fandango, and uncover a conspiracy to keep new additions to the underworld from buying a safe passage through purgatory. Grim Fandango combines a unique story line and complicated puzzles to create an adventure unlike any you have experienced before. Follow Manny through four years of mystery on his quest for true love and eternal salvation.
The game opens to find Manny in search of the perfect client, one with the means to place both of them on the fast track out of purgatory and into eternal paradise. Enter Mercedes Colomar, the client who has it all--beauty, brains and enough money to buy them each tickets on the exclusive No. 9 train. Following the film noir formula, Mercedes promptly vanishes, leaving Manny to solve the mystery behind her disappearance and her connection with the Department of Death.
With fantastic graphics--stylishly rendered in the film noir style--and art from the Mayan, Aztec and Mexican traditions, Grim Fandango is imaginative and appealing. The challenging puzzles call for attentive play and for serious exploration of the Land of the Dead--not an unappealing job when surrounded by such beautiful animation. Take the original story line and humorous characters into account too, and you won't want to stop playing.--Brett Atwood

FANTASTIC! (2008-08-10) Grim Fandango is a brilliant game. You get hours and hours of fun out of it. Sometimes the game can be hard and more challenging. It is a great game that is funny at times. The graphics are good and so are the sounds. I like the way you can talk to most of the people you see and you also have a choice of what to say.Overall it is still a great game considering it is over 10 years old.
One of the greatest Adventure Games ever (2008-06-24) I've first played Grim Fandango about 7 years ago, and played it a number of times again through out the years. Grim Fandango ranks easily along my Top 10 favorite games I've ever played (and I've played A LOT), and it's my second favorite adventure game (only next to the ultimate masterpiece Riven). What IS Grim Fandango? It's Manny Calavera's story, a dead man trying to save a soul, and let's say, the coolest adventure character ever. He stumbles upon all kinds of obstacles through his way to redemption, clever (and sometimes difficult) puzzles that completely go along with the story line and they are not there "just" to remind you you're playing an adventure game. I can't, not mention Grim's great jazz soundtrack which creates a great retro atmosphere in the game.Lucas Arts never did better than that. If you've played a couple of adventure games before and like the genre already, play Grim Fandango at all means, and then you'll LOVE the genre.
My 2 pence (2008-05-27) I've no idea why I'm adding to the already gushing glut of Grim Fandango love, but I feel I also have to say how I think this is one the best games ever. Would be a shame for it to peter out through a lack of platform support. Where is the Vista patch?? the music is the best to feature in any game yet too ;)
The ultimate adventure game (2008-03-20) They tried to pull something like this off with Monkey Island 4, but so far this game is one of a kind. Apart from brilliant script, great sense of humour and a completely beleivable and immersive world, you can almost physically feel the love and affection the creators had for their characters. The only negative emotion I had during playing this game was sadness when the game ended and I had to say good-bye to the characters, whom you even want to call friends (even though the game is not very long, it spans quite a period of the virtual time). Very highly recommended to any adventure fan or anyone wishing to familiarise with the genre. Very positive and uplifting experience
Not so good (2007-12-07) I found this game BORING compared to the Monkey Island series. The storyline was quite good but all the characters, particularly the women, seemed the same. Also sometimes the puzzles did not have a logical answer so you just had to keep guessing instead of using your brain. Buy Monkey Island instead!
