Worth buying even if you have compact digital! (2005-08-19)

Your probably wondering why you should buy film in this digital age, well I'll tell you why, Image quality. The image quality of film and especially this film is still far better than digital in most circumstances this is ESPECIALLY true in the compact market, where a good compact camera with a half decent lens can make an image that is greatly superior to that of a digital compact. The main reason for this is the size of the image sensor; technology is yet to allow for large sensors to go into a compact camera, infarct the only camera currently being made with a sensor the size of 35mm film costs about £5000 and is far from compact!A sensor in most digital compact cameras is probably about 7x5mm or maybe even smaller, compared to films 36x24mm, NO amount of mega pixels is going to fix this problem, you are still going to be enlarging a 7x5mm image.This isn't especially noticeable at 6x4" at first but you put two 7x5" prints next to each other and the difference will hit you in the face, this becomes more noticeable as the enlargement gets bigger, and lets face it the images that get enlarged are the one that really count, and when the film speed or ISO is increased.I'm not saying digital compacts do not have there uses (I do own one) they are good for when you have to have an image quickly for a good reason or for sharing pictures on the internet, its just that making great prints isn't one of them. So next time there is a wedding or a gathering and you want some great prints of great memories, then dig out your film camera, get some of this film, because Superia is one of the best films out there, and get shooting.
