Customer Reviews
Great idea but poorly executed (2002-08-22) This seemed like such a good idea - play as Zorro in a stealth-based adventure featuring his trademark swordfighting skills... so what went wrong? Well, a number of problems rapidly drain any initial enjoyment. Firstly, the gameplay is rather poor. Much is made of Zorro's skills but in practice they are of limited use; some guards will spot you no matter how well you are hidden, which is extremely frustrating, and battles themselves are reduced to Parappa-style button presses - you don't actually get to control Zorro in combat at all; even the boss battles are merely extended versions of the regular fights. Also, you cannot kill anyone, and within about twenty seconds the guards are back on their feet and gunning for you again. If you are judged to be in great danger (it's arbitrarily decided by the game itself), you don't even get the chance to fight and are immediately killed. Graphics are less than impressive, with poor animation and some of the worst clipping issues I've ever come across. Slowdown is frequent and annoying, and if you try to do too many things at once (like throwing a bomb whilst moving...sheesh) the game often siezes up completely and it becomes necessary to reboot the PS2. Lastly, controlling Zorro is a real chore thanks to some truly terrible camera angles - the camera is controllable at times, but even then it swings about wildly and doesn't help matters much. Overall, a wasted opportunity; if you want to sneak, try MGS2 or Thief on the PC - they do it far better.
