Amazon.co.uk Review
Without ever being truly hilarious Perfect World is one of the funniest and crudest comedies to come out of British television in the 1990s. To his colleagues, marketing executive Bob Slay (Paul Kaye) is a workshy lying parasite, but as far as he's concerned he lives in a Perfect World. He has a beautiful supermodel girlfriend, Lauren (Tasha de Vasconcelos) and outraging herbillionaire parents only results in her being more X-rated in bed. He has a well-paid job in an office where he never does a stroke of work, and the support of the barking mad marketing director (played with barnstorming vulgarity by Michael Cochrane). Derren Litten is fine in the thankless role of Vaughan, honest, hardworking wage-slave and endless foil to Slay's ever more outrageous lies. Nina Wadia is outstanding as Maggie, regular subject of Bob's cruel jibes about her weight, but always ready with an equally stinging retort. Paul Kaye himself is superb as a deeply insecure character without a single redeeming feature, a comic monster in the tradition of Rowan Atkinson's Blackadder and Rik Mayall's New Statesman. Stylish, clever and audaciously rude, together with Coupling (2000), Perfect World put the spark back in BBC comedy. --Gary S Dalkin

Perfect World (2008-09-06) This series was totally brilliant and it is astonishing that the BBC has not released Series 2. The programmes are incredibly funny, 5 star scripts and comedy acting of the highest order. Plus fantastic chemistry between everyone in the cast. If you want a great laugh and if you're into Stressed Eric or The Office (but more sharp shooting), you should watch this.Julie Craik, TayScreen Scotland, screen office for Angus, Dundee, Fife and Perth & Kinross
Awesome.... (2006-08-19) Tiger aspect productions were behind this comedy.I think everyone should write to complain that they have not released the 2nd series.Which was equally as good. This scenario reminds me of Fawlty Towers. When it was origanally released it wasnt that recognised as doing very well.Until 5-7 years later it was re-run.Then.CLASSIC!There could be an element of political correctness(i hope not)But its very strange the 2nd series was not released.Dam ,bother and the usual swear words.Buy it now or you will never experience superb comedy. The office? Dont make me laugh. Its rubbish compared to our BOB!
Absolutely fantastic (2006-05-09) "Never truly hilarious" - I couldn't disagree more - this is side shakingly funny. I am also at a loss why the BBC has never released series 2.
Makes The Office look sad! (2005-08-01) Perfect world is utterly brilliant, it makes The Office look amateurish, pathetic and rather sad. Although some of the characters are nearing the boundaries of believability, if you worked in the City or media in the 90's it is amazing how close to the truth this series actually is. Bob's seafood plater and the Tartan Turd (he is a Scot) from accounts are priceless, the Chateaubriand and Tarquin are inspired and the day Vaughan (the prawn) goes on a career development course and tries to oust Bob is a riot. At the end of the day, Bob uses his own inestimable skills to bring in the bacon and look after his people - he can't be all bad! Please release series 2 BBC, for me this rates with Faulty Towers - it is that good.
Brilliant comedy (2005-06-04) Like all the other reviewers, I found this series to be brilliantly written and performed. It's clearly one of the best comedies of recent years. The scripts are excellent and the comedy is realy laugh out loud funny. Michael Cochrane as the Marketing Director is one of the best characters ever in a comedy. It's a tragedy that it wasn't better recognised when it was shown. Lets have the DVD please.
