The Hauer career slide began here...... (2008-07-09) A truly dire film which only serves to illustrate how willing Rutger was to squander the chances afforded him after Blade Runner. Save for one electrifying scene in an abandoned Tube carriage (you might think that sequence was directed by an entirely different person to the rest of the film - I couldn't possibly comment) the remainder of this abortion is unmitigated and derivative trash.
Brilliant for what it is (2008-05-17) This is a fantastic movie, great acting, good plot very English humour. While I admit it may not be Oscar material its well worth the watching, its a classic grizzled veteran cop with smart educated unwanted new partner. The serial killer that killed his partner is back and of course they are out to get him. The cast is good with a whole host of English talent on display. I think that this film is great, while it may have its tongue firmly in its cheek (it has that dark miserable Bladerunner feeling about it) as well as some beautifully crafted one liners. Sit back and enjoy. Unlike others I don't care about the lack of extras, I buy the DVD to see the movie not watch loads of tat relating to it, and as the film wasn't a huge success on release and its going back a fair way then there probably isn't any extra material available anyway. Buy it and enjoy it.
Another good movie still only in lousy fullscreen!!! (2007-10-05) I don't know what to think about the people on amazon because sometimes there is no help at all to get regarding the dvd specifications of some releases. People give 5 stars sometimes to good movies, while their reviews and thoughts are mentioned with lousy dvd releases. Like this one from Sony, yet another lousy fullscreen release with no extra material whatsoever. And nobody here seems to care about that either. They are just some happy idiots who will buy whatever is thrown in their faces. Well, me at least, I'm fed up with it. I will never again blind-buy any movie without first checking the specs of a movie release very closely. I'm tired of all these pathetic dvd-companies who shurn out crap to the masses. It's time we all make a stand and totally boycott all these bad releases. Don't waste your money folks...
Great Film, Terrible Title. (2007-02-16) This film does not have the greatest story line ever, and it will never cause you to question your philosophy on life. What it does have is good characterization, good acting, lots of energy, a dry sense of humour, a big monster, big guns, a believable London going down for the third time, Neil Duncan loosing the plot and Ian Dury.I have for many years classed it as my favourite film. The people are believeable, the monster suitably nasty, the necessary pseudo-science doesn't make you want to shoot the film's scientific adviser, and it is very rewatchable. The only drawback is its title. The phrase Split Second has no bearing on the film in any way whatsoever. It should really have been called:"Dick Dirkin and the Psychic Cop meet Satan"....maybe then people would have heard of it!NB I have yet to get my hands on the DVD release, so cannot comment on the DVD quality or content.
A tongue-in-cheek romp (2006-01-18) There is nothing in the dead-pan presentation to suggest it, but I'm pretty sure that this film was always intended to be more than a little tongue-in-cheek. It does for the Bad Cop / Slasher / Sci-Fi genres what Spinal Tap did for rock music and what Airplane did for air crashes. So, sit back, relax and pop open a beer. Enjoy the excellent one-liners, the two-dimensional script, wooden acting and the Other Movie Rip-Offs. And remember...in film, as in life itself, any problem might potentially be solved with Bigger Guns...
