A taster for all Cropredy virgins... (2002-10-15) If you have never been to Cropredy (Fairport's annual shindig-come-kneesup-come-mudbath) then shame on you. But if you have aspirations to be there next year, in the howling rain (sorry, I'm hamming this up abit) then this is for you. Great music spanning the three ice ages Fairport have been around, funny and honest interviews and a suprise cameo role of that bloke who's in the Royal Family and used to play Eddie Yates in Coronation Street. Geoffrey something. Anyway, this dvd is a real treat and for all you Cropredy regulars, who have not yet bought this...shame on you too! This will see you through the cold winter months until next years cold summer months. It does all come round again, you know.P.S. this one is better than the other dvd available, as it is a bit rougher round the edges and thus more 'Fairporty'. Is that a word? It is now!
An excellent record of an annual treat (2002-08-07) The Cropredy festival is a must for 20,000 die-hard fans every year. Despite the rain (which strangely is missing from the footage - how did they manage that?) that seems to appear regularly (well, every time Richard Thompson plays on the Friday anyway), the crowd gather from all around the country (and further afield - there are a couple of die-hards from Sweden who make the trip each year on a couple of Honda C90's!) for the friendlist and most welcoming festival on the calendar. This DVD gives a great feel for what Cropredy is all about - the selection from Fairport's huge back-catalogue of Folk and Folk-rock is just about right, containing most of the tracks we'd all like to see and hear. DVD also gives the chance for a mass of additional features, such as the footage from the regular warm-up gig at Banbury Mill and interviews with the band members, both past and present. If you have never been to Cropredy, then shame on you! But if you want to know just what it is all about, then this DVD will give you an excellent idea of why we go back time and again to "Meet on the Ledge".
