GOT A SPARE 3 MONTHS (2008-01-04)

or 4... At least I think that's how long I spent playing Diablo II in every spare moment I could find, I'm not sure, I kinda lost track of time for a bit.The concept behind making Diablo II so popular is ridiculously simple. Make an engine that can generate nearly infinite numbers of uniquely different magical items and people will play until the end of time trying to obtain a sword or a suit of armour that's just that little bit better than what you already have.The stories and cut scenes that drive the game forward and link the various Acts are superbly done and contribute in some way to dispelling the "nothing but a clickfest" label that the Diablo games have been cast as.Many spells and abilities are only available at level 30 or above and to fully appreciate these players are encouraged to move on to nightmare and hell modes in order to fully develop their characters. Indeed, the most powerful weapons and items are only available in these harder game modes and because of this Diablo2's replayability factor is very high.The 4 character classes are both well balanced and varied enough that strategies that prove effective for one character class often prove disastrous for another. While Necromancers and Barbarians are traditionally the dominant classes, Blizzard has gone some way to leveling the playing field with their patch. The introduction of the D2 expansion pack also promises to introduce more characters and levels. The future certainly looks bright.Diablo II is disarmingly addictive and it comes as a breath of fresh air in a crowded field of first person shooters and real time strategies that after a while begin to blend together in mimetic mediocrity.Just remember to give your mouse hand a chance to recover every couple of hours....

A good game (2006-03-05)

A good game but not for those that dont like a challenge... IT IS NOT EASY!!! The graphics are not the best but apart from that a great game.

Standing the test of time (2005-10-19)

I first played this in 2001, and in 2005 have come back to it and found it as immersive and as fun as ever.It's accessible, fast, atmospheric, and still has a sizeable online community following. This is going to steal a fair few hours of your life, and you'll be able to run it from most pc's, it being an older game.The expansion pack is also a worthy addition, and recommended.

A Great Game (2004-03-21)

This game is must have for many people's collections. It is a fast and furious game which transports you to a world where evil is trying to take over.You can be one of 5 different classes, and although the story line is the same for each - there is a huge variety in the style you play (amazons stand back from the fray, while barbarians throw themselves in!).This game is a huge improvement to Diablo 2 (which I wasn't a big fan of) so it should appeal to old hands as well as newcomers.

Character development is simple, as you kill things you gain experience, once you have reached a certain amount of experience you will raise a level. This gives you one skill point (to put on a skill of your choice) and five stat points (for you to distribute between various stats). This gives you a huge variety and no two characters are alike.There is a huge variety of items which are classed as either, normal, magical, rare magical, set or unique. The uniques are very in demand on the online games (so you can use them for a spot of trading!)The multiplayer is probably the best bit, playing with other people over the internet is great, (and you can also get some good free items off other people!!) you can kill each other or aid in a quest it's completely up to you!Contrary to what some people have written, this game is not designed to be a strategy game, it is basically a hack and slash. The only aspect of strategy is which armour you will wear, which skill points will be put where. Not "how do I get out of this stupidly huge dungeon".The one fault I could find is that it is slightly repetitive - you have to play the whole game three times to finish it totally!Apart from this though the game is a really good buy, I have had it since it came out and I am not sick of it yet!
