Plastic Fantastic (2007-09-07)

Having recently read Doctor Who Magazine's 'Fact of Fiction' feature on this story, I was compelled to revisit it. Dusting down my copy I poured a glass of wine and settled down to see if time had been kinder to this than it has to many Doctor Who serials from Jon Pertwee's tenure. Happily I discovered that it had - the introduction of The Master provided what was to become the greatest fictional rivalry since Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty; Jo Grant's comedic turn as the Doctor's ditzy new assistant was an instant success and the return of the sinister and malevolent Autons provided the icing on the cake. Particular highlights must include the evil doll waking and attacking the factory boss, The Master's killer chair, the Autons in carnival heads distributing the deadly flowers and The Doctor's encounter with an extra-long telephone cable..!Producer Barry Letts presided over some fine Doctor Who serials but he never topped Terror of the Autons; their comeback in the 2005 relaunch of the programme will hopefully have led many new fans to unearth this little gem.

I honestly can't say anything bad about this story. For starters we are introduced to The Master, one of the finest examples of villainy ever, the Autons make a great (and just as eerie) comeback and the only weapon used against us is something that's all around us: plastic (I doubt I'll ever look at a plastic daffodil with a smile on my face again). Definately one of the greatest stories ever.
Doctor Who- Terror of the Autons review by Benjamin Wood (2003-09-11)

This fantastic Doctor Who story got series 8 off to a great start. For instance, it introduces one of the best villians ever (the master) which is played deviously by Roger Delago, Jo Grant ( Jon Pertwee's second assistant) debuts in this episode and finally the return of the autons. This story has also been electronically restored into colour because in the 1970's BBC wiped a lot of Jon Pertwee's episodes and this story since only existed in black and white. But some NTSC(Amercain) colour version of this story were returned to the BBC in the early 90's. The BBC then combined both the b/w and colour signals to produce a colour image. Anyway. This is one of Jon Pertwee's best storys ever and I advise you to purchase this Video ASAP and enjoy some classic 70's Doctor Who
