Manufacturer's description

The stunning new Metropolis collection from De’Longhi really is the ‘essence of good design’ - boldly combining the strong expressionist shapes of the 40’s and 50’s with inimitable classic Italian style.

Don't waste money on this kettle! (2008-08-18)

It's got a lovely look about it this kettle and that was purely what was it's main draw for us. We bought it along with the toaster to match out of our wedding vouchers and ended up being disappointed from the outset.I couldn't believe how many other people have experienced the same problems as us with this kettle and surely this should be enough to help you to decide NOT TO BUY THIS KETTLE!!How Delonghi have the cheek to charge so much for it is a disgrace - practically the design is atrocious and despite it's 'limescale filter' it collects limescale like a beehut collects honey! The fact that you have to take the lid off each time you want to refill is ridiculous and all that's created is a scratched area around the lid.The last straw for us was when it started leaking everywhere and looking at other people's reviews we're not the only victims of this. It's obviously a design flaw and therefore this kettle should be withdrawn by Delonghi - don't let them get away with it!We have had to throw away this £55 kettle. All I can say is it's lucky we kept our old one in the garage which is doing a good turn until we can afford to buy a new 'fancy' kettle. It won't be a Delonghi though. The only good thing about this kettle, is yes, it looks good and yes, it does boil quickly - whoppee.

This kettle does look great but is let down by a number of practical issues with the design. I haven't had any issue about the taste of water like some reviewers have reported and it does boil pretty quickly. However there are a number of issues that mean it is not a very good kettle - the lid is metal and therefore gets very hot, it is also not very easy to get in and out with just a little loop handle to grip. The kettle is quite heavy too. The indicator for how full the kettle also mists up a bit and is positioned behind the handle so not easy to check when you're holding it. I also have the 2 slice toaster but am very pleased with that but I would recommend avoiding this kettle unless De Longhi improves it considerably.
So far so good (2008-08-04)

I think this kettle is great. It looks good, boils water quickly and is very very comfortable to use - even when full. Yes, it is a little pricey but you gets what ye pay for.Yes, I don't doubt there are other kettles that are quieter, can hold more water, boil faster and are cheaper but this is simply the best kettle I've used. Ever. Period.Life is too short to buy second best.
Starting to get dangerous now! (2008-08-03)

We've had one of these for about 2 years now, and considering the cost its been disappointing! We bought it with the matching toaster (which is slow...) because they looked quite funky. Firstly, we found it quite heavy, which I think is just down to the shape. Pouring it is quite a challenge and it seems to fight against being tipped up. On the plus, it is quite quick at boiling the water though. Then it started falling apart... First the label fell off the side - nothing to drastic and a blob of superglue soon sorted that one out, still disappointing though. The most worrying was when I found water on the worktop that had been leaking from the kettle. Closer inspection showed that the base of the jug was coming away from the body! If gave way when pouring it, you'd end up with boiling water down your legs....Needless to say, its in the bin and I'm getting something else now. Avoid unless a visit to casualty is your thing.
the worst kettle ever made (2008-07-12)

DeLonghi KBM3011 Metropolis Grey Finish KettleThis has to be the worst kettle ever made. I have owned it for 18 months to go with the four slice toaster i bought. It now leaks water out of the bottom of the handle and has had to be thrown away. It is heavy, you can't take out the water filter, the plastic handle on the lid snapped off making it impossible to fill when it's hot. The on/off switch came up before the water was boiled. The list is endless. I need to buy a new one but it must match the toaster so they have you by the balls. The plus side is that it is quite nice to look at. Great Italian craftsmanship. Just like an alfa romeo looks good but something always goes wrong!!!! don't buy.
