WOW! (2005-10-26) Did exaclty what it said on the box!Converted hundreds of videos to DVD over the Summer as well as some of my fav. T.V. shows! No problems at all. If your computer meets the minumum requirements it should run like a dream! The bundled software was all good, all very easy to use. Did exactly what it said on the box at pretty good speeds. Worth the money!!!
Does exactly as it says on the box! (2004-11-28) Used this excellent little device to transfer my video collection onto DVD-R's. Had very few problems with drivers or the bundled software, although it must be said encoding takes some serious processor power and RAM, so if you've got anything other than the latest spec PC, you might have problems with lock-up's and crashes (I used Athlon 64 3200 with 512MB of RAM running under XP home). Had no problems with converting video's of over 2hrs long onto a DVD, although the video tape must be in good condition in order for it to encode without dropping frames and making the audio out of sync with the picutre. All in all a good purchase - it did exactly what I bought it for.
don't touch it! (2004-11-22) If you're interested in blue screen failures, system crashes and driver software conflicts you could do a lot worse than buying this item. I had never seen a blue screen failure or freeze of Windows XP until I installed the drivers for this card. But to be fair, XP does warn you that the software is incompatible. The Adaptec manual, however , advises that you can safely disregard this advice! Within 24 hours I had to reinstall the driver 3 times. The software is also incapable of handling mpeg files of more than about 40 minutes long. As for the Sonic MyDvD software that comes bundled with this item, I only found out afterwards that it is notoriously unstable, and needs constant upgrading.
Disappointing (2004-06-08) Hardware is slow (around 2 sec delay between TV and Videoh), it stop responding when you start recording programs on 2nd monitor, no record button on remont control (!?) and it uses no standard video capture format so you can not capture from it in Windows Movie Maker, Sent it as video source in MSN Messanger or use it as source in MS Windows Encoder, but software is not bad but you can't use it if device is not installed.
Approach with caution (2004-05-20) I bought this item to replace my aging Miro DC30 video capture card. I used it for a couple of hours then put it back in the box for good. The install was easy and the bundled software looks idiot proof, but the quality of the video capture was terrible. Using an s-video source it dropped frames all over the place and the resulting video also had several severe encoding errors. My guess is that the problem is in trying to do the MPEG encoding in real time, but my PC is twice as fast as the minimum spec so I wasn't expecting problems.
