How do Braun Ear Thermometers Work?

Eardrum emits infrared radiation. Infrared radiation passes through the lens filter. Depending on the specifications(material, thickness, production process etc.) the lens filter lets pass a reduced amount of infrared radiation. The sensor of the device receives a reduced amount of infrared radiation. With a complex algorithm specially adjusted on the specifications of Braun lens filters the ThermoScan ear thermometer converts the infrared radiation into a temperature being shown on the display.

An infrared ear thermometer and the lens filter always work as a system. To get an accurate reading it is mandatory to align specifications of device and lens filter.

What does the Guidance System Do?

	Checks position of the thermometer in the ear and confirms the accuracy of the measurement. Beep and light helps to eliminate handling errors. The probe of the thermometer has to fit securely into the ear canal during the complete measuring process before a long beep signals the end of the temperature reading.
	A light provides additional accuracy. It flashes during the measuring process as long as the probe is securely positioned and lights up continuously once an accurate reading has been taken. If the probe has not been placed correctly in the ear canal, it will be indicated by the Guidance System.

Excellent product, easy to use (2008-10-03)

I have found this very easy to use and it is minimally invasive (making it excellent for the younger members of the family). Good for adults too as it is very quick and easy to do on yourself. I have found that the plastic protectors can be wiped with a disinfectant wipe and re-used.

Brilliant product (2008-05-28)

This ear thermometer is worth its weight in gold. It is very accurate, extremely quick and the grandson hardly knows you have used it. What a joy to have compared with other temperature taking products. Interestingly we went to his doctors with him and low and behold guess what she was using! We can not praise this product highly enough - it should be available to every parent and grandparent as a standard 'must have'

The most essential piece of equipment any parent should have (2008-05-13)

Having a son who suffers from febrile convulsions due to high tempratures, this is a godsend, allowing me to monitor his temp accuratly and quickly, meaning i can get him his pain relief as soon as possible, and hopefully get his temp down before he fits.This is the second of these I have purchased from Amazon, as I have lost the first somwhere in the house, and I would rather shell out another £30 to have one to hand next day than be without one.

It's child friendly (2008-04-23)

I saw these being used in the hospital and was impressed at how quick they were. Can understand why too with the pre-warming technique for the probe. It was becoming a challenge to take temperature of my youngest child, especially when she was unwell. The Braun was used at hospital for her after which we had to seriously consider getting one. It's child friendliness and accuracy have made it invaluable. Daughter responds much better to it so it gets 5 stars from us.

Essential item for every first aid box especially for parents (2007-12-28)

When I asked my hubby what to put in this review he said "What is there to say about it but its simple and it works, buy it"Essentially he is right. With a reading in just a couple of seconds it is perfect for looking after the kids and after buying ours, instead of the usual babygrow etc its the gift I've bought for everyone who's just had a baby. Its refreshing also to see its the same unit that my doc has in the surgery, similar to the one in casualty and same as the one our HV has. With those sort of recommendations and Amazons great price. Why buy anything else?
