Le Creuset's Multimat is designed to help you get a grip in the kitchen. It's extremely versatile - made from heat resistant silicone it can be used as a surface protector under hot pans and for handling hot dishes. It's non slip, so is a great help under mixing bowls or chopping boards; it's particularly useful under a carving dish. And finally, it's also a handy gripper for opening even the most stubborn of jars.

Just amazing! (2008-04-14)

From time to time you come accross a product that is well designed, very affordable and does 10 times more than it says on the tin.The multimat is easy to use, and easy to clean.I bought it to place hot pans on, but now fand myself using it all of the time.As has already been said it is excellent under chopping boards, but it is even better under pyrex to stop it slipping hen quickly whisking eggs etc.It is such a simple product, with so many uses.Recommended!

The Le Creuset Multimat is a superbly versatile item (2006-12-13)

making it one of the better multi-tasking kitchen tools available. It is a ridged circular heat resistant silicone mat, of approx 8" / 20.5 cm diameter, which is also dishwasher safe. As per the manufacturer's details, its purpose is four-fold:- a) Use instead of a trivet for stable kitchen surface heat protection. b) Use under a chopping board or a mixing bowl as an anti-skid device, for extra safety. c) Use instead of an oven glove. d) Use it as an aid to open those stubborn jar lids. This SUPER item comes in a variety of colours... to mix or match...with any kitchen colour scheme, or just pop it in a drawer - it takes up very little space! I find it particularly useful for stabilising a bowl whenwhisking the cream for 'Nigella's Instant Chocolate Mousse' ('Nigella Express'), keeping a carving dish steady when slicing the Sunday roast and prising off that stubborn new strawberry jam jar lid!

Very useful (2006-03-17)

The multimat is a ridged circular silicone mat of 8" (20.5cm) diameter. It is all the things the previous reviewer said it is, versatile, heat resistant (up to 425oC it claims) and grips things excellently. I generally leave it lying next to my cooker and then it's right there to use as a pan stand, and accessible to be used to grab small things out of the oven, take lids off jars etc. It is fairly expensive for what looks like one of those grip things that you use to take off stuck jar lids, which, as I've said, it does well, but it is so much more versitile with being heat resistant.I don't find it quite as invaluable as some of my other Le Creuset stuff, such as the spatulas (those I'd be lost without these days), but it is very useful and I can recommend it.

A bit too versatile.. (2006-03-11)

Multimat isn't the ideal name for this product but its versatility defies a more suitable title.

It's a mat alright. Very flexible, heat proof and it grips like stink. It's ideal to put a hot kettle on but be a bit more cautious with pans that have had oil in and will be much hotter. Put a plate or bowl on it and they won't move an inch.

It is also ideal for picking up hot objects like pans with metal handles or anything out of the microwave - I find it easier than silicon gloves.

If it disappears out of your kitchen it wouldn't surprise me. It's good grip is useful for a lot of other jobs around the house (and garage). I suggest you get two in case one "walks"..
