Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review

An elite U.S. counter-terrorism squad loses a member while decimating half of Paris in the reckless pursuit of Middle Eastern maniacs; a Broadway actor with a traumatic childhood secret is naturally hired to replace him. Oh--and they're all marionettes. South Park maestros Trey Parker and Matt Stone (along with co-writer Pam Brady) came up with this shameless satire of pea-brained Hollywood action flicks and even smaller-minded global politics, so don't expect subtlety or even a hint of good taste. Team America is soon on the trail of North Korea's evil Kim Jong Il, who treats us to a tender song about his loneliness before ensnaring Alec Baldwin and the rest of the oblivious Film Actors Guild (F.A.G. for short) in a plot to blow up every major city on the planet. Just as the mindless squad cheerfully demolishes everything in sight, so do director Parker and company. Throwing punches left, right and in-between, the movie's politics leave no turn un-stoned; there's even time to bludgeon the musical Rent. It's offensive, irresponsible comic anarchy seemingly made by sniggering little boys. Painfully funny sniggering little boys. --Steve Wiecking, Amazon.com

What do writers believe in? (2008-09-14)

Having seen this several times, I still can't decide if the writers were afraid to offend people by telling us what they stand for, or if they genuinely have no political beliefs worth mentioning. The satire of US foreign policy is hugely funny, but the rather weak lampooning of politically-engaged actors seems pointless. Making Matt Damon to be some kind of limp, stupid weakling has dated the movie as being pre-Bourne series. Would they prefer it if successful actors just took their inflated salaries and spent them on big cars, whilst paying no attention to the rest of the world? C'mon, at least give them a break for trying. I bet Tim Robbins understands more about the world outside the USA than his President does. A second South Park movie would have been funnier and better written. Time they got back to it.
You Limeys Don't Get It (2008-01-18)

First, Team America: World Police is freaking genius. Second, I find it hilarious that most of you (with a few exceptions) zero in on only one aspect of the movie (its send-up of American foreign policy follies) while the other half of the movie completely goes over your heads! lol You Brits fancy yourselves so clever, and I've never met a Brit who didn't go on & on about how funny you people are, and how Americans don't have a sense of humor. In fact, humor generally translates to other cultures very poorly--which is why you Brits find yourselves so funny, and don't understand American humor. You "got" the part of the movie you've been culturally trained to understand, that is, the send-up of American foreign policy. What you missed was an even harsher satire of, as one of you said, "liberal pieties", and the ineffectiveness of Western European/leftwing American international "diplomacy."Trey & Matt beat the living snot out of you smug anti-Americans, and they did such a good job of it, you're unaware of it! Freaking geniuses, those two.
F*** Yeah! (2007-08-28)

Shows that at least some Merkins recognize the inanity of their country's general world-view. Nothing is immune from the acerbic wit of the creators of this. No doubt the irony will fall flat in teh land in which it was created but, for the rest of the world: F*** Yeah!
VERY FUNNY (2007-08-28)

This is another political satire from Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Their other popular movie is the wildly entertaining "South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut." "Team America" is just as great as the South Park movie. While South Park took a look the MPAA, and censorship, this one bashes politics, and action movies. It's about a team of Americans who go around the world fighting terrorists, and obliviously destroying everything in their path (The Eifel Tower, The Pyramids). When one team member is killed, the leader, Spottswoode, recruits Gary Johnston. Gary is a Broadway actor, and the team thinks that he could use his acting skills to infiltrate terrorists. He falls in love with a team member, Lisa, and goes through with his mission. However, things go wrong, and Team America ends up pissing off the entire world. This prompts a group of Hollywood actors to take a stand. Meanwhile, the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Il, is planning something big for the world...Team America takes cheesy action movie clichés, uses them to the extreme, and makes them hilarious. The hero who is haunted by the past, the lame stunts, a scene where everyone gets mad at each other, a romance (which includes the clichéd sex scene, and it exaggerates it by not making it passionate and romantic, but pornographic, explicit, vulgar, and drop dead hilarious. The puppets are the only reason this scene didn't make the movie NC-17), and an "uplifting" speech at the end that saves humanity. It's all there, and is priceless comedic material. If this movie weren't performed with puppets, it would probably qualify as the worst action movie ever made. This movie ruthlessly satirizes everyone and everything, and nothing is sacred. The film bashes (nearly) every race, and many political figures (how George Bush managed to escape without being parodies is beyond me). The majority of the satire doesn't exist in vulgar slurs and insults, and all-out racism. Whenever each race is depicted, the stereotypes surrounding them are all depicted the way action clichés are used. This is the most politically incorrect movie I've ever seen, and it has something to offend everyone.Hollywood actors in this movie only exist to be shot, blown up, or killed in other gruesome ways. The actor who gets made fun of the worst is Matt Damon, who's character only says "MATT DAMON!" in a really retarded voice. Luckily, his death isn't as over the top as the other actors. The actors are all a part of the organization called the Film Actors Guild (F.A.G.).The songs in this movie are hilarious. This isn't a musical like the South Park movie. The songs in this play on the soundtrack, and while they play like normal songs, they are actually funny songs that were made for this movie. Songs include a love song about how "Pearl Harbor Sucked, and I Miss You. There's also a song in which Kim Jong Il sings about how ronery (lonely) he is. This is a hilarious movie, and I give it 10/10.
Team America! Team Average (2007-08-15)

Heard a lot about this movie from various reviews and decided to buy because of the South Park connection and that's where the connection comes to a juddering halt as this movie is the biggest pile of crap on the planet, Parker and Stone should stick to South Park. Anyone considering buying this beware as it has two humorous moments in the entire movie (Love scene between Gary and Lisa which she will only have sex with him if he promises not to die, in which he replies that he can't make that promise, to which she's says if you can promise this then we can make love and become a couple, Gary says ok I promise I won't die! Michael Moore being blown to pieces as a suicide bomber). It was so bad that North Korea instructed the Czech Republic to ban the movie. Avoid!!
