Amazon.co.uk Review - Wii Sports

In a nutshell:
As if the idea of five games in one package didn't sound a good enough deal on its own the Wii's best multiplayer compendium comes free with the console.

The lowdown:
Clearly realising that they need to provide some quick and obvious reasons why the Wii Remote is such a good idea Nintendo have packed in this compilation with the console, which includes simple versions of tennis, golf, baseball, bowling and boxing. The four player tennis game is the obvious stand out as you swing the Remote exactly as you would a real tennis racket, with the game seeming to almost magically interpret your movements into the game. All the other games work in a similar way, as you hold the Remote like a golf club or ready it like a baseball bat - you can even use it to gently roll bowling bowls and add some subtle aftertouch. The graphics make be purposefully basic but these are the games to instantly prove why the Wii is going to be such a revolution.

Most exciting moment:
While even Wii Tennis can be played with very minor movements of the Wii Remote the boxing game actively encourages you to act things out properly. You hold up both the Remote and the nunchuck to simulate your two hands and then duck and weave as you switch between trying to pummel your opponent and dodging or blocking their own attacks.

Since you ask:
You can use your own customised Mii Channel character in any of the games for that personal touch. The idea was originally just a joke featuring caricatures of Nintendo's top brass for a press conference, but it proved so popular that Nintendo ensured anyone could make their own character to play with.

The bottom line:
Five of the best games on the Wii and they all come free with the console!-HARRISON DENT

Not terrible... (2008-07-03)

Ok, first of all, i will try and deter the wii fanboys here from dismissing my review as 'bias'. I have owned a nintendo wii since launch day and have always liked nintendo's products. However although i was pleased with the wii for a small amount of time, for months now it has been gathering dust under my tv. First the games. Nintendo does it everytime. The exclusives are very hyped and some of them rightly so. I thoroughly enjoyed Zelda until the wolf levels bored me and Mario Kart wii is always fun with friends. Metroid is good because of the controls but lack of variation lets it down as the weapons and enemies become repetitive. Then probably the wii game with the most amount of hype, Super smash bros brawl. I only just got it and it actually made me write this. It is so much fun-with friends. I may not be into it enough but the controls layout and gameplay seem so boring to me that i just cannot bring myself to play it on my own. I have also purchased many retro games and these also entertain for a while but can not make up for the huge disapointment that is third party games, resident evil is awesome, fair enough, but so many other games are pitiful, house of the dead? And so many are just too childish-boom blow and zack and wiki for example. Super mario galaxy is also passable but not awesome like everyone is trying to make out.But the worst thing about this console just so happens to be the thing that nintendo are selling it on. The controller. Yes it is fun on wii sports for about 10 minutes but after a while you just want a classic analog controller back. I mean they can get away with building a last gen console with ps2 graphics and terrible online but when the core idea of the console is faulted then it is never going to be that good.Sorry geraint richards and t clarke but it is just not that good
It's got Soul and something else, gameplay in abundance (2008-06-23)

I own a PS3 and have owned an XBox 360 and also a Wii when it first came out. I sold it back then and sitting next to the Xbox 360 at the time the graphics weren't that great in comparasion, the games out where fairly poor and the sports sim was well a demo which fast became boring.Last weekend I played Wii Fit, loved it and decided that perhaps being the graphics and state of the art whore that I am maybe my 2 days with the Wii prior to selling were misjudged. Needless to say Mario and Sonic Olympics, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart and WiiFit later Im hooked.Yes it isn't in the HD leagues of Xbox 360 or PS3, yes it can't pay DVD's or CD's, yes the control method is a bit gimmacky, yes it's not Blu Ray, the list goes on.But what this console has that the other titans lack is a bit of a soul, it draws you in with the Mii creation, Wii Channels, Wii Store and all those classic games from your childhood (in my case). OnLine works a treat, lag...., not seen anything yet and both the 360 and PS3 have that more often than not.Was I too quick to judge, hmm, no, at the time with the games out I was probably correct to sell it, now would I be right?, NO, this has already got some classic games and more in the pipeline.Guys if you like playing consoles and would like a hassle free life this console is the only one that I have ever played with my girlfriend for more than 2 minutes. It is easy to pick up and play and the games are designed to be easily accessable but difficult to master.Alas convincing the other half that Metal Gear Solid 4 is great was met with the usual it's to complicated, but it looks really nice though, lovely... Im bored.....Whilst the PS3 and 360 both are powerhouses each with certain ad's and dis the Wii is just pure fun. Would I be without a PS3 or 360?, No, if I wannt state of the art HD ready consoles for say MGS4 or Call of Duty 4 to show off my LCD HD then they come out to play, but if I want fun with mates, sink a few beers and have a laugh, it's Wii all the way!!!!

If i want to play call of duty 3 - i will buy it on xbox 360. if i want to play need for speed, il play it on ps3. but any other game i see - its fit for Wii! wii sports il start with..fantastic fun! fiver great games that me and my family enjoy playing together. but if your not a family then its just as fun on your own (almost).eventually you will get bord of it which is not that bad when you think it came with the console and its just the same thing over but a tad difficult each time. overall - Brilliant.Gamesi feel most games are brilliant. yes, the graphics arent the best but if you buy the right games - your fine.if your a rock god - guitar hero 3. great game, though the graphics are terrible.if your Mario - then All the games are amazing. exept mario and sonic at the the olympic games. super mario galaxy and mario kart wii i think are the best games around.Shootersif you count zelda twilight princess as one - get it. its bloody brilliantthe scariest shooter horror ive seen is resident of evil 4 - wow.Recomondationsi think you should get a remote charger. get a expensive one. i got the madcatz one and it was 16.99. worked so well. you never need batteries - it even has a fan to cool it down. it takes 1/2 hour for a remote to charge fully - which is pretty good. i would also buy another nunchuck and a classic controller.extra'smake sure you have a wireless/wired router on broadband. it means you can play people around the world on some games like mario kart wii which is amazing fun!Overall console.a worthy buy. a nice slim console wireless that anyone can get.Get it!!!Cheers
much better than expected. (2008-06-20)

When the Wii first came out i wasn't remotely intrested. then at chritsmas everyone i knew was going mental because they really wanted one and couldnt find them anywhere and i was thinking "what's the big deal?" then a couple of months ago the Wii Fit came out and my mum decided she wanted one, so she went out and bought a Nintendo Wii with the Sports game but the Wii Fit was out of stock. I still wasnt intrested, then she set it up and startd bowling, and she asked me if i wanted a go, so intrigue got the better of me, i stood in position (feeling like an idiot) and threw my ball without much effort, and missed all my pins. so i realised i needed to put effort into it, and when i started going, i couldnt stop! the determination to get more strikes than my mother was so strong! and i no longer felt like an idiot haha.then she introduced me to tennis, and i really love tennis, and it was so much fun! and actually quite good excercise, especially for the arms! along with the boxing. and then i decided it would be better if we had two wiimote's so i ordered another, and now playing tennis against my mum, or bowling or baseball is great! i even have the hang of golf (and i hate golf) whereas my mum cant do it so good! i also bought the Endless Ocean game which my mum isnt intrested in, but i really enjoy it! We still havent got the Wii Fit (we have one reserved for next week though!) but i know it will be so much fun when we do get it.So i definately recommend the Wii, we have never been a family that have ever sat down and played games together (apart from the odd game of scrabble) but even my dad had a go at the bowling and he NEVER plays on any console! it definately brings friend's and family's together i feel, even though there is a lot of rivalry where tennis and bowling are concerned! and i have had to eat my words over my initial thoughts on the Wii but who cares it's all in the name of fun! xx
