In a nutshell:
Video games based on movies have never had a terrific track record but this looks like breaking the mould forever. Not only is the Peter Jackson himself involved; but so is the Michel Ancel, creator of video game classics such as Rayman. The results look extraordinary.

The lowdown:
You take on the roles of both Jack Driscoll and the mighty Kong. Being the big monkey is great, naturally, but the feeling of power is neatly turned on its head when you play as the considerably more vulnerable Jack. It's an intense, absorbing romp.

Most exciting moment:
Escaping down some white water rapids as a puny human, chased by two tyrannosaurs rex.

Since you ask:
Peter Jackson loved Michel Ancel's Beyond Good & Evil game so much that he asked him to make Kong.

The bottom line:
Potentially, the most cinematic video game ever made.

Play As Man, Play As Kong! (2008-06-01)

I had a bit of a interest in this game because of it's looks and the achievements, and then my brother found the game for just a juicy £5 online at Amazon, so I asked him to buy it and I'd paid the money. It's just recently I managed to play it and get it done with and to be honest, it is fairly good. The King Kong game is based on Peter Jackson's King Kong Movie. The King Kong Game was released on the launch day when the XBox 360 came out back in late 2005 and I have seen quite a few people on my friend's list, which actually own this game. The story of King Kong is when Carl looses business in his filming career and decided to think of a final solution. The solution was to get his filming crew arranged, plan and arrange a local Ship Crew to take them to a destination where not many people know called "The Skull Island". Even though Carl arranged all of this by heart, he only had 3 hours to find a lady who is willing to take part in the female role of the film. Eventually he finds a girl named Ann. She accepted the offer and she approached the boat where she met crewmember Jack with whom they immediately sort of fell in love with each other but didn't want to say it out loud. As they approached the destination Carl forced all his crewmembers to hop off the ship and take some rowing boats to reach the island. But things don't go to plan, as the current goes really rough and then suddenly all the members get pushed off the boat and crashed onto the island losing one member of the team. As the team approached a small remote area Carl decided to get a few film shots with his camera and asked Ann to do some screaming. She done so and then they hear a large roar by some unknown creature, which they didn't know what it was. This is where the adventure begins! In King Kong you play as two characters, mostly as Jack in a First-Person Mode Perspective and as King Kong himself on certain missions. When playing as Jack you are in First-Person Mode but unlike some other First-Person Games you don't always use guns. In this game you can actually use Wood Spears and Bones in this game as weapons, not to mention as well that you can also use the Spears in the game to pick up bait and throw it at enemies that aren't easily defeated and even stick some fire on so that you can set alight thorns or grassy areas in the game. The weapons in the game are based in the 1930's so you'll mostly be using Pistols, Shotguns and of course the classical Thompson. Meanwhile, as King Kong you're playing in a Third Person Mode and your main objective is to travel throughout the jungle and rescue Ann who normally gets herself in trouble or just about close to be killed and eaten by the dinosaurs. Kong's ability allows you to climb among trees, walls, debris and other stuff. Kong also allows you to push over large boulders and pillars of wood.King Kong is packed with a full adventure, but the missions your based on may confuse you as sometimes you have to think of strategy plans. Especially when you play as Jack. The XBox 360 Version of the King Kong game only has 9 Achievements, allowing you to get a total of 1000 Gamerscore Points. The game also has an Extras Menu and as you play through the game you'll unlock extra features including the Cast Crew, Artwork, and also if you play the game to 100% and unlock a certain amount of Game Points by replaying the levels, you can also see an alternative ending to the game!My Personal Game Score: 9/10: Smashing, Groovy, WonderfulMy Wish: The most annoying part about the game is that when you play as Jack, in order for Jack to use a gun/weapon, you must hold down the LT Button on your XBox 360 Controller. This can be annoying, as you have to press one button, and then press another to shoot the damn gun. So like the usual First-Person Shooters I do wish that the game just allowed you to carry your gun without pressing the LT Button.Final Comments: It is rare for a game, which is based on a movie becomes very successful, but on this occasion, King Kong is one of them. If you are after a game that is based on a movie and has very simple achievements, I recommend you taking a look at the XBox 360 Version of King Kong.If you are interested in seeing my Gamer-Tag on the XBox 360, help yourself. this is first xbox 360 a game i played when i got my xbox on launch day. and it did not disappoint me this game is for king kong fans as i am a big one. i loved this game the feeling of power as kong when you wrestle a tyrannosaurus rex to the ground and pull its jaws apart. or as jack the feeling of weakness as you are being chased by raptors. in my opinion this is truly a great game. but if you are not a big fan of king kong and just looking for a new game to play you may find this to be a bit repetitive. i still to this day occasionally play it. i just hope they bring something else out like this soon.
A Great Movie.. Average Game! (2007-08-20)

King Kong the game is one of the best game-movie conversions in years I feel, but sadly the gameplay lets it down somewhat. The game follows the movie very closely overall with some very impressive graphics to match, but the gameplay is often a bit wobbly, especially as you progress through to later levels in the game.In the game you start off in control of the main character Jack whom you control throughout much of the game in FPS view. The FPS view is ok but a bit wobbly in some levels I felt and sometimes the control can be a bit tricky to master as well, although before long you should master the controls in no time. You also get the chance to play as King Kong in a few of the later levels which is probably the best feature about this game. You control Kong in third person view and basically you control Kong around the jungle jumping from vines to trees avoiding and killing enemies along the way. The game itself is hard I felt. I've read a lot of reviews on the web saying how easy this game is but I felt King Kong to be one of the hardest games I've ever played. There is a cheat code you can use in the 360 version which admittidly I had to use because without it, I doubt I would have been able to complete the game. One of the best features about this game on the 360 version is the ability to easilly get the achievements. Per achievement you earn a massive 100 gamerscore which I thought was great and even if you use the cheats you can still earn the achievements which is another great thing, so you can earn 1000 gamerscore fairly easily in King Kong, especially if you decide to use cheats. But overall, in spite of this, King Kong is not the best game I've played. The graphics are great but the gameplay could have been so much better.
Why are people afraid of new ideas! (2007-06-19)

It seems to me that no matter how powerfull games consoles become, or wonderfull games look the gameing public allways prefers the same type of game.....so many companys just churn out the latest enstallment of there best selling franchises year after year after year. Please try something a bit diffrent or at least a game with a new idea!King Kong is an adventure FPS but unlike just about every other current first person shooter you will need to rely on weapons salvaged while playing, from bones to sticks and even spears that litter the gameing area. The game will never allow you to build enough ammunition to be able to wastefully spray bullets at anything that moves you will need to hide, make use of sheltered areas and harpoon the various creatures that inhabit skull island. Please however dont let the lack of guns put you off bones and spears are usually easy to find but are still limited enough that you will still need to take carefull aim.The game world is impressive and the overall presentation is very good. Where the game does fall short is replay due to the lack of multiplayer options. Basicly if you are tired of more of the same then give something slightly diffrent a try.....you might like it
