down and out for weeks (2008-03-02)

What can I say; in short this is not worth buying, DON'T DO IT. I have used many of the previous versions of Ghost and I had created an image of a previous Windows installation. I had problems with my internet connection (I was told I had bad modem!?) When I was told I had to reinstall Windows; I believed I had some thing to recover. Nope, would not work!!! I then reinstalled Windows then Ghost and because I had previously installed Ghost my so called "activation period" had expired (15 days) You can ONLY activate this product over the internet. What utter non-sense!! I not only had to do without an internet connection for three weeks (turned out to be a fault at the exchange) but all the things I had on the Ghost image as well. Don't expect any help from support!! Every other bit of software out there has phone activation, not this. So be warned; THE VERY LIMITED ACTIVATION OPTIONS COST ME MORE THAN 10 TIMES WHAT THIS SOFTWARE WAS WORTH. DO NOT BUY IT! NO HONESTLY, DON'T DO IT!

Not a serious option! (2008-02-13)

It seems to me Symantec always mess up the products they obtain and Norton Ghost was no exception. I had so many problems with it - hit and miss operation, interrupted backups, corrupted discs and backup files - I eventually gave up and went in search of a better solution.For anyone who seriously needs a reliable backup and emergency recovery system, you will not do any better than one of the Acronis True Image options. I've had to recover from several 'disasters' (largely self-inflicted) but with regular backup images via True Image Workstation, on a spare hard-drive, I've never had a problem since!

Another Awful Norton Product (2007-08-19)

How do they get away with it? Norton the market leader seem to be particularly expert at producing products which are overly cumbersome, expensive and frequently do not work. This program has unwieldy menues, is very slow and prone to hanging. Stay away and get Acronis True Image instead.

Doesn't work with Vista... (2007-03-21)

This software is.... ok. "Adequate" is the best I can say for it. It works, and thats it. It's menus though are confusing and overly complicated: I just wanted to go straight to backup a drive: no fuss, no complications. It wouldn't let me. I had to go through endless menus and options I didn't want before I could get it to do what I wanted it too. Very confusing it was too.Symantec suffers the same symptoms as Microsoft Vista in that it assumes that Nanny Knows Best. It automatically assumes you want to do this and that and doesn't allow any flexibility at all, it treats users as idiots and attempts to take all control out of our hands. To make it worse it doesn't work with and neither will it create backups of Vista! Apparently support is deliberately excluded to make you go and buy the new version (Ghost 11?) whenever it come out.Do yourself a favour and buy Acronis True Image instead. It's nice and straightforward with clearly laid out menus and graphical displays that make backups a doddle and doesn't treat you as an idiot. It works with Vista partitions too, although I havn't tried installing it with said. It will let you create and restore backups from a bootable CD: Ghost will only let you recover from it's CD. Worse than that I discovered that if you alter the parameters of the hard drive in any way to what it was when you created the backup i.e. if you have to copy the backups to another drive or change the name of the folders that contain the backups Ghost will no longer be able to restore the data and will fail with an an error! Thats right, your backups are now useless! You can get around this by using the recovery CD but thats just plain stupid. With Acronis on the other hand you can do whatever the hell you like to the backups and it'll restore 'em no problem.If theres one advantage over Acronis it's this: it will backup Linux partitions successfully: Acronis won't. For everything else though choose Acronis it's vastly superior.

Good if it works (2007-03-06)

After I installed this it wouldn't recognise my system partition. I read about similar problems that people have had online so decided to reinstall (as this seemed to fix the problem for others). After I had uninstalled it Windows couldn't see my external firewire HDD at all. Also shortly after installing this, my clock started showing anomalous times. As I had seen such strange behaviour and others have also had strange things with there system after installing this I decided not to reinstall as I need to be able to trust my backup software (kinda the point). I had rather more success with Ghost 8.2 that comes on the recovery CD. But I don't see the point of paying for version 10 and then only using 8.2, and I'm a bit annoyed at how buggy this is, even after running live update. When it works this is an excellent program (I know from previous versions), but this is a bit too buggy to recommend. I have heard that the original Ghost stopped at 8.2 and from then on "Ghost" is actually Power Quest Drive Image rebranded as Ghost. This could explain why I have ended up with a product far inferior than I was expecting.
