A good action series (2008-07-07)

If You like action/war series, Ultimate Force is a good choise. A good TV rappresentation of SAS technics and actions, with a good cast. Parhaps may not be a "real" rappresentation, but it was a well done movie.
Great Series (2008-06-07)

This series is great - Highly addictive. I am a huge fan of Spooks, and didnt think that I would enjoy Ultimate Force so much! The only downside is losing a load of the main characters, Jamie in particular, at the start of Series 3. Ross Kemp is great as Henno. Great Entertainment. Cant wait for Series 5!!!!!!!
British action at its best (2008-03-24)

Not enough to suspend your disbelief but more than enough to suspend your critical faculties, this is the type of gritty action fodder which only the Brits do best. Right from the start we know what we're getting when Henno (Ross Kemp) tells his troop at the wake of a fallen comarde, "Right, that's enough, we're not Americans!". I did write a review on the first series where I pointed out that the set-piece action sequences are far better than most Bond films and shot for a budget which would pay for a day's catering on most Hollywood films sets. Yes, it is cheesy in places but at least we don't get the crying and praying that we'd get if this was about a bunch of US Special Forces soldiers and the story lines, especially some of the sub-plots brings the characters alive. It is a travesty that most of the cast was killed off by series 3 but if you can get over it and move on the entertainment continues. For the trivia merchants, the last episode of Series 4 was never shown on TV probably for fear of upsetting the PC brigade: more than enough reason to own and watch this boxed set. Bottom line, if you enjoyed The Sweeny, The Professionals or Sharpe then this is for you and the current price for all 4 series it is an absolute giveaway.
Ultimate Force (or is it Farce?) (2008-03-05)

I was persuaded to watch this show on the telly by my then GF, who just wanted to perv on Jamie Draven. That said I found myself enjoying the show hugely, not because it is a great show, but because it's "so bad it's actually good". My friends and I refer to it affectionately as "Ultimate Farce": Enough said?
Ultimate force to ultimate farce (2007-12-27)

Put simply, the first episode is the absolute best - a stunning mix of briliant and compelling humour, drama, script and action - the last episode is the embarrassing worst - an awful mix of cheesy one-liners, little attraction to the characters, poor storyline and far too much hollywood-style superhero action. The episodes in between seem to scale between these. ITV could have had one of the most successful and enjoyable tv shows ever made, sold it worldwide and made millions of pounds, instead at the beginning of the third series they kill off practically the entire cast, just because the actors couldn't make the start of filming in time! The first two series are well worth buying, up there with the best tv shows ever made. There is always a tense build-up, and a great storyline, but most importantly it is all very realistic! They don't stand in the way of enemies shooting off round after round without getting hit, in fact many times they do get hit and die! They use what certainly seems to the lay observer as proper military tactics and show a striking amount of emotion relating to the stresses of their job. This was what made the show stand a part from other offerings in the grnre!! Despite the odd episode, the third and fourth series are filled with showing-off, seemingly thousands of austin powers-esque evil henchmen who are nothing more than gun fodder and a woman in the SAS. I really hope this doesn't sound sexist, but it really seems like a pathetic attempt to be PC, rather than a well thoughtout plot development. The final episode exemplifies this perfectly... in the final scene henno (ross kemp) is hanging upside down, dangling off of a crane, trying to defuse a nuclear bomb in the centre of london. Unfortunately, and some what unexpectedly (ahem), he drops his wire cutters, and so a sniper has the shoot through a thin electric wire from 200 metres to cut it and defuse the bomb! Unfortunately he didn't shoot through the crane cable by mistake...
