It may be the game that popularised the whole concept of first person shoot ‘em-ups set during World War II, but as the years have gone by, the Medal of Honor series has found itself besieged by more and more copycats trying to offer ever more realistic simulations of the era. This is the first Medal of Honor game made specifically for the next generation of consoles though and finds you taking the roles of both pathfinder Eddie La Point and Private Boy Travers - paratroopers in the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division. As such, you’ll end up with a whistle stop tour of enemy hotspots in Sicily, France, Holland and Germany. The game takes its paratrooper motif serious too as the game levels are big enough that you actually have some control over where exactly you land and as a consequence what tactics you choose to employ.

The game also tries to give you as much freedom as possible with the weapons you use, with each being customisable with authentic parts which you can find during missions. Even the missions are as open ended as possible, as you’re given up to a dozen objectives, of which only a few have to be tackled in any sort of order. One side benefit this creates is that the developers have been forced to drastically improve the enemy artificial intelligence so that they can react intelligently to your attacks, instead of just relying on the pre-scripted movements of the earlier games. There’s also a stronger tactical element than ever before as you monitor the back and forth of battle between all the forces on the map. As over-familiar as WWII shooters have become, there looks to be enough new ideas here to keep even the most jaded virtual soldier happy.

getting back to its best (2008-10-11)

i found this game to be great, i think the open play is the best thing this game has to offer though letting you decide in which order you want to complete your objectives, a few more levels would of made this game an absolute 10 out of 10 but still a good game overall

Keep moving nothing good to see here (2008-07-31)

Being a big fan of FPS games on any format I purchased this hoping that the Medal of Honor series was finaly back on track (the last few console ones have been dire) Unfortunately after clogging up nearly 5GB of my PS3 hardrive with an install I was greeted by a truly shocking frame rate, slow unresponsive controls and enemy AI that can see you around corners and through walls. The parachute drops at the beginning of the levels is a great idea and really does open up the various levels allowing you a great deal of freedom, however with the AI seeming able to see you and track you anywhere stealth is non-existent. Youre weapons are truly inefective, sure not all games need COD4 levels of realisim but a full machine gun clip to take out one guy is not only annoying but stupid.In all I find it impossible to recommend this game so for your own sake avoid...you have been warned

New gimmick, otherwise same old MOH (2008-06-01)

Medal of Honours big change is that levels are now completely open. Parachuting in gives the choice to tackle objectives in different ways. And this is largely true, although its now easier to get lost, wandering around for the next objective. The parachute drop does change after completing objectives. Safe areas are highlighted by green smoke, which is a nice touch. Yet the 2D smoke effects are very disappointing.However this is essentially Medal of Honours only change, the rest is a case of same old. The visual polish normally associated with EA games is strangely missing from Airborne. The graphics haven't really moved on and the combat feels lightweight next to Call of Duty. Even menu screens jerk and freeze, despite installing 4GB to play. Levels such as Market Gardens bridge climax have horrendous difficulty spikes. These can make it more of a repetitive slog than any fun to play. But at only 6 missions, this is over soon enough.

Good all rounder! (2008-05-04)

The latest game in the 9 year old Medal of Honor series,is a strong return to form. Ever since Rising Sun was released back in 2003, Medal of Honor games have quickly declined, with European Assault and Vanguard, but I'm pleased to anounce that Airbourne is a very different story.As soon as you start playing the game, you instantly feel that you are meeting up with an old friend, as the classic Medal of Honor gameplay is the same as alway, with great graphics, new ideas, great missions and a good selection of weapons. The best new aspect of this game is when you jump out of the plane at the beginning of each level, as you can see the whole level beneath you. You can choose to land any where on the map, and carry out objectives in the order you prefer. The maps are very big and you can access just about every building and even land on top of them to get a great view of the lanscape. Both the exterior and interior are well detailed, which is something that has been lacking from previous MOH games. Another cool factor is that you can upgraqde your guns, allowing for a greater capcity of ammo or even better scope. There are 6 Missions in total which are very long indeed. Gameplay can be saved after completing an objective. The later levels are very challenging indeed, offering hours of gameplay.Once the game is complete you can replay the levels differently by landing in different areas on the map. There are also plenty of additional extras to watch aswell. It is fair to say that the graphics are a letdown compaired to the mighty Call of Duty 4, even though Airboune is a newer game. But then again Airbourne was due out months before COD 4, but was delayed, so this factor should be brushed aside. I think that this is one of the best MOH games in the series and a big improvement on recent outings. It's an enjoyable game, with a selection of in depth challenging levels that you'l want to replay over and over again. Medal of Honor is back in business.

Name a game where you can clonk nazis with your size 9s (2008-03-18)

Death from above. This is Medal of Honor Airborne, jump off a plane laden with upgraded gear and rifles, drop on the ground anywhere, then start tearing tdown the nazi machine. Doesn't match the superioty of the first Medal of Honor but is the best of the series for years! Shame that there is no two player.I would reccomend this game if you like WW2 and if you like clonking nazis on the helmets from above
