Amazon.co.uk Review

Once intended as a feature for Johnny Depp, the long-germinating feature film adaptation of Marvel Comics' cult title Ghost Rider stars Nicolas Cage as motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who transforms into a skull-faced angel of vengeance to battle the forces of evil. Though perhaps a bit too mature for the role, Cage brings a degree of humour to the outrageous proceedings; he's well matched by the Easy Rider himself Peter Fonda, amusingly cast as Mephistopheles, the demon with whom Blaze strikes a bargain to save his father, and in turn, causes his transformation into Ghost Rider. Wes Bentley is also fine as Blackheart, the rebellious offspring of Mephistopheles, and Blazes' chief opponent in the film. They're joined by a solid supporting cast which includes Donal Logue, Eva Mendes, and Sam Elliott, but their participation and a relentless barrage of CGI effects can't hide the fact that the story itself, though largely faithful to its comic origins, is rife with clichéd characterizations and glum B-movie dialogue. Fans of the venerable title may cry foul over this adaptation (as they did over helmer Mark Steven Johnson's previous comic-to-movie feature, Daredevil), but less stringent viewers may enjoy the fiery visuals and Cage's typically quirky performance. --Paul Gaita

Poor, Poor, Poor. (2008-10-09)

Ghost Rider was 'THE' American comic I always bought (and wished I'd kept them). This is nothing like the comics apart from he 'changes' to the Ghost rider and back. What I remember is the fight to remain Human, hating becoming the demon and the demon, Zarathos, hating becoming Johnny Blaze. Zarathos having his own personality, two separate beings locked in one body always looking for control. Hope they don't do another one, shame.I would like to see them make 'Luke Cage & Iron Fist', if done well, could be made it to a TV series.
good premise, very poorly executed (2008-09-14)

First off, Superhero and comic book movies are generally very good( X-men,Batman,Spiderman 1 and 2). Secondly, Nicolas Cage tends to be very good (The Rock, Leaving Las Vegas, Bringing out the dead,Face/off). So this should be excellent, right? WRONG! The concept is a good one, but the film manages to be flat and uninvolving, with a leading man about 10 years too old for the role and desperatley trying to ignore it. Even his appearance is cringeworthy. The romance is laughable at best and the action scenes are about as exciting as Teletubbies. You know a film is in trouble when the review quotes on the box mention the characters and special effects, which are the film's only good points. In short, I am very happy with my new coaster/ frisbee.
just watch the film (2008-09-12)

Extended cut? (2008-09-10)

Ghost rider was a good, solid film- however, i thought that Micholas Cage did his best work when he was the ghostrider...but i think that was CGi plus another actor right? In my opinion, the guy who played the younger Johnny Blaze did a far better job that Nicholas Cage...although, NC's accent was more in keeping with the rest of the actors. The film itself was great to see in the cinema...and...how is this an extended version? unless the extended bit refers to deleted scenes or commentaries..
The worst Comic-to-film adaptation yet. (2008-08-28)

I cant say I was disapointed in this film because I expect exactly what I got; this film is bad and throughout the film there is a very cheesey feel to it. The erractic Nicolas Cage is truely dreadful in the lead role and he's obviously just turned up for the pay-cheque. The movie has few, if any, redeeming features. The effects look uninspired and overall production seems, by Hollywood standards, cheap.Comic-to-film adaptations have always been a mixed back but this embarassment of a movie is at the bottom of that bag.
