Want music or muzak ?Passionate, stirred , committed, Martyn Joseph lives his songs on stage.He pulls you into his messages till suddenly your asking how has he got you feeling stirred about his beliefs.He's an interpreter rather than a performer who's committment runs deeper than Springsteen.If you've got the guts -get it and see life slightly differently !

Almost Like 'Being There'! (2006-09-25)

It's been a long time coming but was it worth it? Oh yes!! MJ's first live DVD takes you as close to actually 'being there' as you could possibly hope for. I manage to get to a good number of shows, seeing many artists whom I greatly admire. That said, there's something VERY special about a MJ gig. If you've been, you know what I`m talking about. Well this double-disc offering captures much of what it's like.Those intense, rich songs; each one delivered with heart-rending conviction. At once angry and frustrated ('He Never Said'), then tender ('Dolphins Make Me Cry'), reflective ('Cardiff Bay') or questioning (the earth-shaking 'Dic Penderyn'). Always, but always infused with hope and determination; burning with a belief that things might yet rise above the here and now, ('People Crazy As Me').These songs portray it all. His heart and his voice make for a very rare combination: a skilled writer and musician, passionate about people and the world around him, willing to stand on a stage and bare his soul. As he says in the revealing interview on disc 2 - he is not about `entertainment`. This is something else; something richer and purer. If you have only a passing interest in what live music can achieve, buy this DVD. As well as stacks of amazing songs, it also contains an insight into life behind the gig, as well as the aforementioned interview.The look and sound of it is great, even though it's presented in 4:3 and digital stereo only. (Don't even THINK I'm complaining here!) If you don't feel like spending £15 or whatever on the DVD, spend it on a ticket to one of his gigs. Then you'll be back for the DVD!
