Good (2008-07-06) I had this camera for my birthday and it has been a great camera. It contains plenty of useful features and you can really understand how to use it easily. The camera has lasted me for over an year and has only broke because I went up Snowdon with it and my rucksack leaked, but other wise it's a really good camera. The only weakness is that it's not rechargeable and is quite sensitive. It's light, can keep up to 500 pics and all in good quality. If you want to take pictures of friends and stuff not so serious I would recommend this but if you are more interested in landscapes and views I would go to another camera, but this one does work and does have a very good quality, and it easy to download on the computer. It's great for first timers.
Awful power consumption but nice build quality (2008-03-08) Olympus has gone down in my estimation due to this purchase. The first time it was used the batteries died after around 20 pictures. I then used the more appropriate 2500NiMh batteries and they performed even more poorly. I could not even play back my photos or transfer them to PC on fully charged batteries before the 'low battery' icon flashed and the camera switched off. I returned it to the retailer (not Amazon) and they sent it back to Olympus for repair. Amazingly Olympus returned it to me saying there were "no faults". I put a new pair of fully charged batteries in, switched it on and lo and behold the battery indicator flashed before I could even take a photo. I got my money back when returning to the retailer and demonstrating all this with a battery tester to hand. I can't imagine how poorly trained the technicians at Olympus are. That said, the look and feel of the camera was good and the pics that I initially took weren't bad.
Nice camera (2007-12-19) This is a good camera from a reputable company. The images are of high quality and are are very true to the subject, i.e. the colours are natural and contrast and so on. No real criticisms really, nice sharp monitor screen and when used with high spec rechargeable batteries you can get over a hundred images per charge on a tiny xd card.
Great Compact Camera for a low price (2007-10-25) I have had this 7.1 MP Digital Camera for a few weeks and have taken some great pictures with it. The camera has a 3x optical zoom so you can zoom quite far with it and still take great photos without loss of quality. I also like the 2.5" screen the pictures show up vibrant, sharp and clear. The controls are well placed and easy to pick up even a kid could have it working in a few minutes. The thing I like the most is my parents are not so tech savvy so the Guide option has helped them as well to take better pictures they do not want to be fussing around with options and then realize that that one time moment has passed.I use 2500mah rechargeable batteries and they last a while I can take about 100 photos. I carry two sets and it is ideal for me, because I can only take around 190 photos on the highest quality setting with my 1GB XD card.I bought the Olympus XD card and it provides a Panorama function, and is great for taking pictures of landscapes. In my opinion I prefer normal batteries due to being able to pick up a few non rechargeable batteries for cheap if my 4 AA's do die on me (It has not happened yet). The only downside I can see with this camera is it does take a little time to take another picture straight after (mostly at night waiting for flash to charge), but I have not needed to take quick photos. Apart from this the camera is great for the price and I recommend it. You could spend around 50 quid more and get an even better camera but for casual use it fits perfectly for me. If you are a hobbyist or pro I would look else where though.
Disappointed (2007-08-04) I purchased this camera 2 weeks ago and since then have had nothing but problems with it. I first noticed when I tried to take a picture as it took far longer then I expected to capture the image. Second, when you try to look through the pictures you have taken it takes a fair amount of time to load each one. The battery compartments also seems to have problems. I have tried various new batteries yet the camera keeps saying there is no power and then will turn itself off. On the other hand, this camera is fairly cheap and easy to use and the pictures are of good quality. This was the first time I have tried Olympus cameras but I don't think I will buy another in the future.
