ok, but how did that awful guitar solo make it past quality control? (2008-09-06)

Another day and another singer with neo soul aspirations. Eric is pretty good vocally, nice vibe. The album starts off very well with the first 4 songs all really strong. Unfortunately then come the problems.ILuvu2much is let down by a mismatch of vocalist in Algebra Blessett. I like her own album, but this doesn't work out too well. Then follow some mediocre songs, until Right or Wrong hits the spot again. All in all, a great first half, average second half.Gotta mention the samples - great Steely Dan clip in Been in Love, and was initially impressed by Couldn't Hear Her - probably the first Pat Metheny sample I've heard used in soul/ rhythm'n bass. Unfortunately, the track is spoilt by a terrible guitar solo that just goes on and on (the song finishes at 3 minutes 35 seconds - the remainder is a long and very painful 5 minutes 30 seconds guitar solo). Who's idea was it to put this awful, overlong guitar solo over a sample by one of the world's most virtuoso guitarists? Big mistake. Curt Chambers?......Ernie Isley you ain't.

What would make a grown man, with a dodgy knee (old soccer injury) the butt of his kids (and wifey) jokes, as he struts his stuff to music that makes him yearn for a club night that would bust good sweet music to dance to? Mr. Roberson, please stand up! I on the other hand need to sit down, as my knee is feeling the effect of my physical (but may I say smooth!) efforts of the last 10 mins. Looking at ITunes, a reviewer labelled this CD perfect for a romantic date, and I would whole heartily agree. Songs like Been in Love (heavy vibes and a great rap from Phonte of Little Brother) was the song that had me tripping out, and I defy you not to move to this. Besides, the lyrics remind me of the ups and down of a romantic union. From there I was also moving swaying to Iluvu2much, featuring Algebra, followed by 'If I had a Chance' which is not also a great song, but a subject matter that I can relate to. I'm also feeling `Music'( the reason I purchased this CD in the first place) I wouldn't say this CD is a five star banger, but the afore mentioned songs, my mind make this a 3 1/2 CD. I now plan to get the rest of his CDs, if my knee can handle the stress!
Fantastic and original. (2007-04-20)

This album is such a breath of fresh air, I really can't fault any of the songs on originality. Songs such as "Only for You", "Pretty Girl" and "Right or Wrong" set a new standard and leave you wanting more. Each morning on my way to work I have put this album on and the stresses and strains of the traffic have melted away. I also recently heard Roberson sing live and i wasnt disappointed with the quality of his vocals. I hadnt heard of Eric Roberson until recently and bought his album on a whim and I was not disappointed. I would definitely recommend this album its worth every penny and I guarantee there wont be any refund needed!!!
Eric's Back! (2007-03-27)

Instant genius from Eric Roberson, easily one of the greatest soul singers out today, and that's saying a lot, given how many artists i've listened to over the years! Eric is one of the few artists, who can bring a smile to your face, from the very first note, of a new album, sharing he's tremendous sense of joy, love and energy, in his music, and further marveling at his growing talent as a songwriter over the years, for various artists, who have had many classic song's, written by him. Roberson's voice is enough to make a tune great, but his lyrics here are especially great, personal themes and topics that come off with a real sense of poetry that few other singers can match these days. Eric's way ahead of the pack here, setting a new standard for the male voice in soul music, yet also firmly placing himself amidst a strong lineage from the classic years. Why this guy isn't a superstar is beyond me, but honestly, loving him at this level, because it means that he is as upfront and close as his music! Tracks include "Music", "Evening", "Pen Just Cries Away", "Iluvu2much", "Pretty Girl", "If I Had A Chance", "The Baby Song", "Couldn't Hear Her, Featuring Curt Chambers".So if you want to hear proper underground Neo-Soul music, this one's for you!
