British Jazz at it's best (2007-05-04)

I've now got my mitts on a copy of the Mike Taylor Quartet's Pendulum reissue cd and it's fantastic. 2 standards But Not For Me, Exactly Like You, 1 jazz standard A Night In Tunisia and 3 Taylor compositions Pendulum, To Segovia, Leeway. I don't know how the originals sounded on the very rare LP but they're so fresh on this cd they could have been recorded last week, not 42 years ago! Whilst playing and recording Pendulum, Taylor was earning a living washing up in Lyons Tea Shop.Inside the booklet there are 10 pages of notes on Mike Taylors life, including 4 pictures. It covers Mike's life from when he was born 1938 to his body being washed up on the beach in Leigh-onSea in 1969 when he was barely 30! There is lots of information on what he did during his short life, the later part is not pleasant reading though, pot and LSD had taken it's toll. Fully recommended piece of British Jazz at it's best and rewards repeated listening.
