Description

The Rolling Stones are a household name all over the world, with their music reaching out to fans of all genres and ages. This collection of the band's early hits was originally released in 1975 and contains some of the most groundbreakingand unsurpassed music in rock 'n' roll history. 'Rolled Gold+', an extended version of the original (simply entitled 'Rolled Gold'), is the first time the compilation has been released on CD and boasts such classic tracks as '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' and 'Paint It Black'.

Correct me if I'm wrong please (2007-12-31)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a vague recollection of hearing track one, "Come On", debut on Ready Steady , Go. Since then, I've been a fan of "early" Stones, previously compiled on what was the "London Sessions", but may have been renamed. It was good, and this is equally good. I guess the record company is maximising on re-issues before their fifty years is up. Then , presumably, we'll all be able to buy it all again for 99p in Woolworth's.
The only Stones album you'll need (2007-11-30)

The Stones are now sad, crusty old stadium rockers who just don't know when to call it a day and should probably have retired in the 70's when Brian Jones died. But they did make some blinding music and the legend that was 'The Beatles and The Stones' really is justified. While not their best song, to me Mother's Little Helper sums them up as the talented "oddly tuned" guitar band with distinctive, satisfying lyrics and a cheeky sense of fun. If you like The Rolling Stones you will already have all these tracks, that is a simple fact of life about all compilations. If you've never owned any of their albums though and you've heard Paint It Black on a film soundtrack or She's a Rainbow on the advert with the plastacine bunnies and thought they were good then this is the ultimate CD for you. My Dad had the 1975 vinyl version of Rolled Gold and so I grew up with it. You may therefore say I'm showing nostalgic bias but I've tried all their albums and I hope you'll believe me when I say that this is as good as they ever got. Some 'experts' say Exile On Main Street was their best album but for me they stopped making good music after Sticky Fingers and so this updated version, now not only encompassing the best songs from that album but also their best songs from previous years which weren't originally included in Rolled Gold, is indeed in my opinion the best Stones album there is.I'm not sure where a previous reviewer got the idea that Stairway To Heaven was on here though, perhaps he's got The Stones confused with Rolf Harris!
Wow! (2007-11-07)

Having read the Amazon summary of this CD set which lists the contents as containing Stairway To Heaven, I can hardly wait. I've never heard the Stones' version of this Led Zeppelin classic.
Best Stones compilation (2007-11-03)

Still far and away the best overview of the Stones' music from the days when the Stones mattered. A welcome re-release despite what others say.
Yet another pointless re-release (2007-10-28)

Record companies really are scraping the barrel now with re-releases. What is the point of this release when we already have the more comprehensive 'Forty Licks' and the even better three cd Singles Collection? Then of course there are the other 'Hot Rocks' Stones compilations released in the band's hey day. Okay so it might be the first time it has been released on cd - I used to have it on vinyl when it was first released in 1975 as it was the most comprehensive collection of Stones material from the 60's at the time, however it has since been greatly surpassed - but it's about the fifty first time these tracks have been re-issued. Who on earth will buy this I don't know and just what will record companies do next to re-sell us what we already have? The music is of course five stars, but as we're reviewing this pointless release it gets two stars.
