Sharp African-American comedy (2008-05-21) I came across this series via the internet via the huey Freeman Christmas episode and thought it was rather funny, I then went to find all the other episodes on youtube (sorry, they ain't there anymore) and fell in love with this series. To be honest, the great thing about this 1st series is the fact that each episode looks at an interesting aspect which Aaron McGruder percieves is part of African-American life. Whether it be "the nigga moment", the moment at which Black people get into a simplistic argument and it escalades into something worse, or the itis, a look at the diet of African American food which is extrememly fatty. It can be enjoyed on many levels, theres animated fighting and moments of true sadness. its well written and the music is brilliant as well. A series which I would advise anyone to appreciate.
OH... MY... GAWD!!! (2007-12-27) My wife bought me the complete first season of THE BOONDOCKS for christmas (2007) and buddy, let me tell you, everything you or I have heard about this amazing and highly politically charged animated show is true!Be advised; that this show is not for the weak or faint hearted. It pulls no punches, the satire is rabidly vicious and the dialogue and sometimes the animation are both explicit and cutting. Aaron McGruder has taken some serious heat in the U.S. for his merciles lampooning of the negative aspects of both black and white American culture with most of his criticism coming, oddly enough, from white liberals who acuse him of being racist towards his own and white people. One of the most common criticisisms of McGruder is that if a white person did what he does with THE BOONDOCKS they would be called racist. As a black man I would have to say yes, a white person who created and wrote a series like THE BOONDOCKS would have to be a racist. What would said white person's motivation and frame of reference be? Four hundred plus years of slavery? Daily racial descrimination?McGruder writes from the heart and not out of hate. He writes the way he does because he is angry with his people for letting the cause down. Because he's angry with racism and racist people be they black or white. If you want to be truly entertained and enlightened please, please, please buy THE BOONDOCKS... NOW!!!
