Title very misguiding. (2008-07-09) I bought this album because it was cheap, and I am interested in jazz. Not that I am a jazz fanatic. I am usually an electronic buff, but want to explore other genres as well to not get the tunnel vision one tends to get with just listening to one genre. So I dare sometimes dive deep into jazz. Not that I have gotten the chance much, so this CD would be a first attempt. Well, to be frank, I was mildly disappointed. This is not jazz, I know that much. This is soul of various origins. Granted some tracks are really old, and some are very good. But if soul was what I wanted, which is not the case, I would have gone to the local gas station and bought a 10 cd package of the stuff. Many of these tracks are more famous for their small appearances as background music to various tv commercials than their original releases. So if you want SOUL and you just happened to look this album up, buy it. It has almost all the oldies but goldies, and even has a track by Amy Whinehouse who I hear has taken the genre a little too seriously. As for you others who are actually looking for jazz, without so much the vocals, look elsewhere. As for me, this goes straight in the trash where I just threw a yogurt gone bad. The yogurt I did want by the way, it said yogurt on the label, and I got "yogurt", I just failed to eat it on time. The yogurt is eaten by bacteria in the near future, the CD however is not.
