Amazon.co.uk Review

Truncated to a slim 11 episodes as a result of the writers’ strike that was ongoing in America during its production, Heroes’ second season nonetheless packs enough in to keep the momentum rolling on one of the most exciting Stateside shows of the moment.

Heroes is, at heart, the comic book tale of a varied group of people, each with special powers that they struggle to come to terms with. With such powers, of course, come troubling foes and situations to face, and that proves to be the case here. So this time, we pick up four months after the events of the first series, and there’s the small matter of the Shanti virus to contend with. This provides the main thrust for the series’ story arc, and allows room for several interesting sub-plots to develop too.

Yet while, in the world of Heroes, you suspect that this second series will never rank with the best, there’s easily enough here to justify the asking price, and the show emerges easily with its reputation intact. Even when it’s not at the top of its game, Heroes is exciting, interesting and polished entertainment. --Jon Foster

Synopsis

Combining comic book style and geeky in-jokes, Heroes is a stellar series that draws comparisons to fan favourites such as Lost and The X-Files. But thanks to its well-drawn characters and intricate plot, this drama reels in more than just superhero fans. Heroes revolves around the premise of seemingly ordinary people developing fantastic powers. There's Claire (Hayden Panettiere, Ice Princess), a cheerleader who can't appear to be injured or killed. Matt (Greg Grunberg, Alias) is a cop who can read minds. New Yorker Peter (Milo Ventimiglia, Rocky Balboa) has the power to adopt other heroes' abilities, while his politician brother (Adrian Pasdar, Judging Amy) has a special power of his own. Though the show boasts many other characters, its secret weapon is Hiro (Masi Oka), a Japanese office worker who is delighted to discover he can move through space and time. Set four months after the end of series one, the second series of Heroes thrillingly builds on the previous events, introducing a variety of new characters including Honduran twins Maya (Dania Ramirez, The Sopranos) and Alejandro (Shalim Ortez), the devious and lethal Elle (Kirsten Bell, Forgetting Sarah Marshall), and Hiro's idol, Takezo Kensei (David Anders, Alias).

Disappointing follow-up to great first season (2008-08-20)

I was disappointed by the whole of season 2. The story is so depressing, there are very few light moments. It's a real shame because it looks great and it's well acted but it's just depressing.
Heroes Season 2 (2008-08-13)

I really loved the first season of 24, I thought that a lot of time went into it and the story was interesting and kept you entertained throughout. How ever the end was a little disappointing.Season 2 has been slated which I think is a bit harsh, I think most negative comments was due to the writers strike causing the season to fall short at only 11 episodes. There were more characters introduced in season and I did feel that this took the airtime of the characters we had already grown to love away also making storylines more complicated and like the previous person stated disjointed. For me the season did get better as it went on but I would love to see where they go from here.
One of the best shows on TV (2008-07-31)

This second season of the brilliant Heroes TV show was sadly curtailed by the writers strike and the first half was widely slated by both critics and fans but personally I feel it is just as good as season one. I would admit that this season is not without its problems; Peters' amnesia plot is terribly clichéd, many of the new characters aren't terribly interesting or well acted (especially anyone with an `Irish' accent), and Hiro probably stayed in the past slightly too long. These are all little things however and they are far outweighed by the brilliant and involving writing and competent performances by most of the main cast.Although it does go on for a bit too long, one of the highlights of the season for me has to be Hiro's adventures in feudal Japan. Despite the plot of this part of the season being somewhat predictable, it is nonetheless a greatly interesting and well made story. It is also a shame that season was cut short as it was definitely hitting its stride during the latter episodes of season two. Overall despite a few missed steps, season two is a great season that is definitely better watched on DVD rather than weekly. Heroes easily remains one of best shows on television at present.
Heroes Series 2 - Continuing brilliance. (2008-07-29)

Watching Heroes series 2 on tv was compelling in a subtler way to that of series 1. It built up to an amazing climax and, I think, used the ensemble cast extremely well. The DVD comes with brilliant extras, including an audio commentary for each and every episode with lead members of the cast and crew. It also comes with an alternative episode 11 and also multiple featurettes which are as revealing as we have come to expect from the first season set. I think this particular series of heroes works better on DVD where you can see the story unfold at a more rapid rate. Like the best novels, this series builds and builds and I think will prove paritcularly effective when series 3 airs and we see the various repercussions hinted at here. In short, it's a must buy.
Amazing season so far (2008-07-13)

A lot of fans got pissed due to all the new characters they lost sight that this is clearly a great season. The creators clearly had a rough gig with the writers strike so they hammered out these fine episodes to wet our appitites and wanting more by bombarding us with questions. Dont fear the creators intend on delivering on this perplexing second season and you may find that the new characters you hate maybe your new favorites in the following seasons. So lets all hope that they dont have another strike.
