Overrated--Good,but no Derek Trucks (2008-10-06) How JB got to be voted best blues guitarist 2 years in succession is beyond me--he's good, but if you want superb, seek out the work of Derek Trucks. On some of his own band discs he's a little jazzy for some,I guess,so try the Allman Brothers Band's One Way out, where you'll not only get the wunderkind DT,but also Warren Hayes, another Hall of Fame alumni.I don't think Amazon offer this disc, but the "alternate suppliers" do,and it can be very reasonably priced. It's not for nothing that they are considered the best damned live band in the world, and once you try this, you'll be saying "joe Bonamassa?Ho hum!"One Way Out: Live at The Beacon Theatre
Brilliant but short (2008-09-29) I totally agree with all the reviews raving about the quality of the music and the performances. However, what no one has mentioned is how short the CDs are: a total of 100 mins over 2 CDs. Remember that you can get nearly 80 mins on one CD. Surely more could have been added to make these even better value and give his growing fanbase more of his tremendous extended tracks. There are two extended tracks which show Joe at his best. I'd like to have heard even more of these and more acoustic.
Dont think, buy! (2008-09-28) This is the best live blues album for years.Like Robert Cray?, then this is for you.Dont think just buy it.Love from Joe's mum (not).
Great Live Album (2008-09-25) Having owned all of JB's albums to date I was a bit worried this might be a bit of a waste of time. How wrong I was. The live version of Sloe Gin in fantastic and Woke Up Dreaming is probably the best acoustic track I've ever heard - purely from a playing perspective. Can't wait to catch him live. Highly recommended album - buy it!
If you only buy one Joe Bonamassa album ... (2008-09-19) ... buy this one. Listen to it, then go and buy the rest of his catalogue. An excellent blend of blues and rock and most things in between, this shows off Joe's touch, feel and tone when it comes to delivering music his way. From the inspiration that is Bridge to Better Days to the emotion that goes in to Sloe Gin and the energy of Woke Up Dreaming - can he play that any faster?! - this will not disappoint anyone who remotely likes blues music.
